Cloverleaf Bowl Shooter Pleads Not Guilty

According to court records, Fremont resident Leonard Brewer has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of a woman in the parking lot of the Cloverleaf Bowl on November 4th.  He is being held without bail at Santa Rita jail and was scheduled for a preliminary hearing this morning in Dublin.  As previously reported  on this blog, Mr. Brewer is suspected of shooting a weapon from a vehicle and striking an acquaintance in the ankle during the early morning hours.

Five Shootings in 30 Days; Fremont and U.C.

There have been at least five shootings in Fremont and Union City combined in the past 30 days.
November 4-  A man shoots a woman reportedly with a shotgun.  She survives and he is later arrested.
November 20-  Two men sitting in a car in U.C. are shot.  They survive and the suspect is outstanding.
November 23-  Two boys shot and killed as they sit in a van in the wee hours of the night in Union City.  Suspect is outstanding.
November 28-  A man shoots into the air with a handgun from the parking lot of the Target at the Fremont Hub.  No one is struck.  The suspect is arrested.
December 3-  A woman is shot in the leg by an acquaintance in a vehicle and is dropped off at the 7-Eleven in Niles.  The suspect, as of this writing, is outstanding.  Her status is unknown but should survive based on preliminary info.

The shooting of the women were done by acquaintances and apparently targeted.  From police statements, it is unknown if the two U.C. shootings were random or not.  The shooting at Target seemed to be done to scare security officers and not aimed at any persons.  There may be other shootings that have not been acknowledged by either agency.  No official word has come from FPD on the November 4th Cloverleaf bowl shooting or the October 14th stabbing of four people in Irvington.

Gun Shot Victim at 7-Eleven Niles

Officers and paramedics are off with a female gunshot victim at the 7-Eleven in Niles.  Apparently the victim was shot in the leg while traveling with a friend in his car.  A tourniquet has been applied to her leg, per radio traffic from an officer on scene.  The driver has left the scene.
Update:  Officers are calling this a 245PC, assault with a deadly weapon, not an accidental discharge.  The suspect and his vehicle are known and officers are actively looking for him now.

Fatal Hit and Run Suspect Vehicle

Vehicle in fatal hit and run collision believed to be a 1997-99 Buick LeSabre, investigators still need help to locate & ID.

On Friday evening, November 29, 2019, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Fremont Police Traffic officers responded to the intersection of Niles Blvd and Rock Ave regarding a fatal hit and run collision. Upon arrival, officers discovered Fremont resident, Suzanne Ogi, 72 and her dog Molly, had been struck and killed while crossing Niles Blvd. in the marked cross walk. 

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the driver had stopped and checked on the pedestrian however, he returned to his vehicle and fled the scene northbound on Niles Blvd towards Union City. The driver was described as a slender white male in his 50s, with grey hair, glasses and wearing a lighter colored fleece jacket. The suspect vehicle was described as an older light colored sedan. 

Based on evidence, officers believe the vehicle is a light colored 1997-1999 Buick LeSabre.  In-car camera footage from Fremont police vehicles that had been in the area for the Niles Festival of Lights Parade were analyzed.  Video of the suspect vehicle was recovered from the units stationed at SR 238 (Mission Blvd) and Nursey Ave. The Buick LeSabre was recorded driving northbound on SR 238 before making a left westbound turn onto Nursey Ave just before the collision occurred.  Unfortunately the quality of the video has not been sufficient for us to determine the license plate. 

The included pictures are of the suspect vehicle from our in-car cameras and then a sample photo of a 1997-1999 Buick LeSabre. The suspect vehicle has front end damage.

Belt Beater Man

A strange call.  A man was out of his car on Eggers near Fremont Blvd around 12:45 this afternoon and beating a car nearby with a belt.  Dispatchers received several calls on this.  At least one person followed the man's gray Jeep Compass south on Fremont Blvd.  Officers were able to intercept it on Walnut.  Ironically enough, the suspects pulls into the courthouse parking lot.  Officers were able to detain him there.  A check of his license plate revealed a similar incident of the belt beating here in Fremont.  Hopefully when he sees the judge on his next visit he will leave his belt at home.

Police Activity on Scott Creek

There is a huge search taking place in an industrial/business area off Scott Creek west of Warm Springs.  Numerous midnight and day shift officers, along with detectives, K-9 officers and drone operators are on scene. At this time the object of their search or reason for it is unknown.  More later...
At 7:53 the search was called off apparently with negative results.  There is talk about a stolen truck out of Gilroy...apparently looking for an auto theft suspect.
Update:  This event started at 5:58 when an employee from Gilroy stated he was tracking their stolen 20 foot Freightliner box truck to a location on Auto Mall.  At 6:06 Z90 picked it up on 680 and followed it west on Scott Creek, passing Warm Springs and then onto Kato Terrace.  From there the suspect backed the vehicle into a parking spot in a nearby business lot and fled on foot.  Officers gave chase and eventually set up the large perimeter that lasted for over 90 minutes.
