Pursuit of Robbery Suspects !

Suspects wanted in an armed robbery of a store on Mission Blvd in U.C. and possibly responsible for an attempt armed robbery in Fremont, were pursued by Fremont officers minutes ago.  The pursuit travelled north on 880 from Decoto into Hayward, exiting at Tennyson.  A Fremont motor unit and at least two cars chased the armed suspects east on Tennyson and through a neighborhood  before losing them.  Marked and unmarked Fremont and Hayward police officers are still in the area looking for the suspects.  Info from detectives, per radio traffic, say this crew in the silver Infinity are responsible for at least 7 armed robberies throughout the Bay Area.  I will update as needed.
2:00 update:  A UCPD officer has located the suspect vehicle in the Mt Eden section of west Hayward.  Numerous officers from Fremont, U.C. and Hayward have set up a perimeter.  Apparently the suspects have fled the vehicle on or near Eden Avenue.
2:20 update:  There is talk about this vehicle they have now not being related to the armed robbery.  They have a silver Infinity but apparently doesn't match with what Fremont was chasing.
2:37 update:  UCPD confirms that the vehicle they have on Eden is not related to the pursuit in Hayward.  They do have a case where someone did run from them though.
The Union City robbery took place at 7 Hills Food Store, Mission and Appian Way.  The attempted armed robbery in Fremont took place at the Fremont Gurdwara.  The latter turned out to be a brandishing of a handgun only- no robbery and may not be related to the U.C. robbery, but occurred shortly after the 7 Hills robbery.

Fremont Jail Closed Tonight

A UCPD officer radioed that he had a prisoner and was enroute to Fremont.  The dispatcher informed him that the Fremont jail was closed.  He said he would go to Santa Rita instead.  But, in my 18 years of listening to Fremont PD I have never heard mention of the jail closing.  I don't know if this is because all the beds are full (there are enough crazy transients out there to fill the beds, for sure) or if its another issue such as staffing.

Update:  Fremont PD PIO Geneva Bosques has provided an update.  She said the jail is normally closed once a year so the jailers can attend training and for maintenance to be performed.  The jail should reopen this Friday.

FPD Patrol Blotter Absent

The last issue of the Fremont Police Patrol Blotter was sent out February 14th, covering the previous weekend of the 8th-10th.  While it is important for the Chief and her staff to meet with the public, such as at the event at Starbucks today, a priority should be given to informing the public of crime in Fremont via the patrol blotter.
Update:  A patrol blotter was sent out moments ago covering last weekend's events.

Prostitution in Fremont??

I'm shocked!  Shocked to find prostitution in Fremont!  (credit to the movie Casablanca).  A man in the lobby at the Extended Stay in Warm Springs was complaining about a "transaction" that he was involved in in a room there.  He was "upset about his money" according to  dispatch radio traffic this afternoon.  He reported that three women were in the room.  Officers were on the way to investigate but I did not hear the outcome of his complaint as to whether it was verified or not.

Union City PD Feed May End

I have been giving some thought to ending the feed to UCPD.  Initially the Broadcastify account was set up for Fremont PD Dispatch only.  However, Fremont began their contract in dispatching UCPD and much of that was on the Fremont channel.  Now UCPD is on their own channel for much of the day (9 a.m. until 11 p.m).  When both channels are being scanned during day and early evening hours, there is a chance that UCPD may tie up the scanner with some event in that city and transmission from Fremont would not be heard.  I'm soliciting input as to your preference in agencies to monitor.  If you feel strong about keeping UCPD, please let me know.  If you want just Fremont, please let me know.  If you don't care one way or the other, no need to advise- I will assume those that don't respond don't care one way or the other.  You can "comment" to this post or use the email area at the bottom of the home page.

Update- There were no comments or emails in support of keeping UCPD feed active.  Therefore, effective today, only FPD Dispatch will be streamed.  However, if an event in U.C. such as the stabbing at Logan today occurs,  I may then activate their channel.

Traffic Officers Kicking Commuter Butt Today

Judging by the number of car registrations being run by motor officers this afternoon,  they are quite active in enforcing traffic laws in Fremont.  Officer Snow, known on the radio as T17, and a fellow motor officer have been working Mission Blvd at 680 (by McDonalds).  Another motor unit was down Mission at Starr.  Both are commuter cheat hot spots.

Transients Acting Out

You would think that on a wet Sunday morning the local cops would have time to enjoy a coffee and donut.  OK, coffee and pastry at Suju's.  But no, too many locals acting out this morning.  One man at a local business was yelling and cursing at customers.  A woman at Lucky's in Brookvale was laying down in aisle 3.  Paramedics checked her out and she was sent to the hospital.  The ambulance said she "displayed abnormal behavior" and may be under the influence of drugs.   Then a call from the Circle K on Auto Mall.  A man was making a mess by the coffee machine and wouldn't leave.  All this within a few minutes after 8 o'clock this morning while most of Fremont sleeps.

Get-Away-Day Traffic Ugly

Friday afternoon traffic is normally bad, but you add a Monday holiday to the mix and a stalled big rig on the Altamont, and you have a bad start.  Just before 2:00 the emergency braking system on a big rig locked up bringing it to a halt in the eastbound #4 lane at Greenville.  A heavy duty tow is on the way, but meanwhile traffic is backed up to Eden Canyon.  680 is showing normal backup from Scott Creek to Sunol and then it opens northbound to at least 580.  At the moment I-80 is closed eastbound at Colfax to Nevada State Line due to snow.  Chains required on US 50 & 88.  SR 4 closed above Dorington due to white out conditions.  Cal Trans is not recommending travel into the Sierra Nevada range this weekend due to weather conditions.  Heavy snow in Truckee at this  time with the temperature 23;  Tahoe Valley airport reporting light snow, 26 degrees and gusty wind.

BURGLARY SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER CHASE ON NIMITZ !

Three suspects are in custody after a short chase up the Nimitz Freeway and a foot pursuit.  Just after 2:30 this afternoon a vehicle was broken into at Pacific Commons.  The suspect vehicle, a black Honda Civic with no license plates, left the area headed towards Auto Mall.  An alert officer noticed a similar vehicle on Mowry by 880 a few minutes later.  This vehicle had a license plate on it and in what appeared to be a move to ditch the officer, headed back north on 880.  The officer was able to catch up with it as it exited 880 at Thornton.  A Fremont Police sergeant was there too waiting.  The Sergeant and the officer initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled.  Heading back north on 880, the suspect vehicle began passing slow commute traffic on the right hand shoulder before crashing into 2 vehicles just south of Decoto Road.  Two occupants in those vehicles complained of pain from the crash, per radio traffic.  The 3 suspects exited their vehicle and ran north on the shoulder before making a turn westbound across the freeway. S N O W ! !

As forecast, snow has arrived in Fremont.  This is an 8-10 year event, so enjoy the view while it lasts.  From the photo it looks like more snow fell at the lower elevation behind Ohlone College than on the peak, but this could just be the angle of where the photo was taken.  If you have snow pics, please email them to me here:  bluebag@yahoo.com

Niles Canyon Road Closed

FPD just sent out an advisory on the closing of Niles Canyon Road.  Cal Trans is on the way to clear the boulders.  If history is any guide, this will be a long closure or it will close again this afternoon during the commute.  This will result in heavy traffic on Mission Blvd.
Update at 4:20 pm.  FPD advising the road is now open.  As mentioned above, I would not be surprised to see it close again before sunrise.

Snow On Mission Peak Possible

The National Weather Service says snow may fall to as low as 2,000 feet late tonight/tomorrow morning.  The Diablo Range and the higher peaks in Santa Clara County should have several inches of snow accumulation.  The forecast low for Fremont overnight is 42 with rain forecasted until about sunrise.

Barking Dog in Newark

Silent Super Bowl Sunday on the scanner so far.  About the most exciting call was a barking dog complaint at the Sycamore Bay Apartments in Newark.  There was also a smell of marijuana coming from the same apartment.  Perhaps the stoned occupants forgot they left their dog out on the balcony.  Poor guy.

Cool Fremont Photos

One of the coolest bicycles in Fremont.  Spotted on Liberty.

I have never been inside but what a cool name!

Palm trees swaying in a cool breeze in Irvington this afternoon.

Groundhog Day

Like the movie, listening to the scanner is really Groundhog Day all over again.  Same calls.  Everyday.  Tresspass, auto burglaries, family feuds, welfare checks, suicide threats, auto wrecks, lost kids, lost elders, theft.  Fortunately a shooting is rare but a "gun call" is becoming more common.   A random home invasion is very rare.  Tomorrow will be the same.  Stay tuned.
