FPD Mum on Chase Gun Incident

A man walks into a bank with a gun and a box of bullets.  You would think this would be newsworthy, something the PD would want the public informed about.  And this is especially true since they caught the suspect within four minutes of being dispatched.  This could have ended tragically had this man, who appears to be mentally challenged, given the gun and bullets to someone with a criminal history.  Stay informed.  Listen to Fremont and Union City Police Dispatch live stream and hear what is going on around town.  I'll do my best to keep the blog updated when I can.

Update:  FPD blotter is out and they do acknowledge that the man was mentally challenged.

Police Activity This Morning at Chase Bank on Mowry

A man walked into the Chase Bank on Mowry at Fremont Blvd just before 11 a.m., placed a handgun on the counter and asked an employee to put bullets in it for him.  He had a box of bullets. According to radio traffic employees ushered the man out and called FPD.  Officers arrived two minutes later and located the 50ish male at the bus stop near McDonald's on Fremont Blvd.  The male suspect did not follow commands and was bit by the FPD K-9.  Paramedics and an ambulance were called. This odd event, in my opinion, just highlights the need to removed mentally ill people from the streets.  This obviously was not a serious bank robbery attempt, but a man in the public square without a full deck.

Crash Mowry at Overacker

There was a crash at Mowry and Overacker at around 11 this morning.  One vehicle caught fire causing quite a plume of smoke.  FFD extinguished the fire.  I don’t know if there were injuries or not.

Big BevMo! Bottle Booty

Officers are on the way to BevMo! on Mowry on a report of a theft of a $150 bottle.  The dispatcher didn't say what the bottle was, but I'm sure it is not Bud Light.  Suspect left in a gold van.

WILD 120 MPH PURSUIT !

Fremont Police officers were engaged in a 20 minute pursuit of a stolen 1997 Acura sedan early this morning that reached speeds of up to 120 m.p.h.  The pursuit started shortly before 12:30 after patrol unit 3-O-3 got behind the stolen Acura going north on Mission Blvd near Niles Canyon.  After back up officers were gathered to assist the lights were turned on passing  Nursery Ave and the Acura fled.  The pursuit headed up Mission into south Hayward reaching speeds of up to 90 m.p.h. before the suspect made a U-turn and proceeded south on Mission.  Officers continue to chase the stolen vehicle along Mission Blvd and then onto southbound 680 where it accelerated to 110 m.p.h.  As the pursuit passed Milpitas speeds peaked at 120 m.p.h.  Officers then lost sight of the vehicle near McKee Road in San Jose, believing it may have exited there.

Drunks Going to the Hospital Tonight

Listening to the Washington Hospital ER channel tonight as well as FPD, I have heard drunks of the following ages being transported to the hospital:  15, 16, 40, 53.

U.C. Robbery

A person was robbed of $240 minutes ago after being threatened with a silver handgun per scanner radio traffic.  UCPD is actively investigating and they may have a suspect identified.

Big Scene on Alvarado Niles Blvd in U.C.

Details are slim at this time, but it appears that a person has died inside a warehouse on Alvarado-Niles Blvd in Union City minutes ago.  A police officer observed about 9 adults enter what appears to be a closed business around 1:30 this afternoon.  Soon after entering additional officers and paramedics were requested.   ACFD arrived, and according to radio traffic, started chest compressions before declaring the person deceased at 1:45 p.m.  I will update as info becomes available.
Update at 2:15 pm.  While listening to the archives it was difficult to determine if officers were dispatched to this location or if this was an on scene observation by a patrol officer.  There was radio traffic mentioning that someone may have hurt themselves, but it was not clear if it was intentional or not.  My guess is that these 9 adults had information of someone inside that needed to be checked on and they urgently entered the business.  Once inside they found somebody in critical condition inside the warehouse.  Industrial accident?

Chasing Transients

Fremont Police officers have been busy chasing unwanted street people from various locations today.  Two officers are in the 3900 block of Stevenson looking for an unwanted male subject and two officers have just been dispatched to the 24 Hr Fitness on Walnut on a report from security that a woman will not leave.  These are just two examples of the "415H" calls that officers are sent to several times a day 7 days a week.

Fire Working on Washington Blvd

Several people have called 9-1-1  reporting smoke coming from a building on Washington Avenue.  Fremont Fire is on scene and reporting this is coming from or near an abandoned home.  Updates to follow.  The location on Washington is between Fremont and Roberts, on the north side, near the old Casa Robles restaurant.
Update at 7:42-  fire fighter reporting knock down on the fire and believes it is contained to one room.  They are now conducting a search of the building.

Good Morning Fremont!

Today is shaping up to be another fine winter Bay Area day with temperatures expected in the mid to upper 60s with light north wind.  This of course is conducive to beer drinking and partying which may keep the PD busy tonight.  Enjoy while you can.  Rain may reappear later in the week.

Giant Transport Plane Flies Over Fremont

An Antonov AN-124 Russian built cargo aircraft flew over Fremont around 2:00 this afternoon   en route from Colorado Springs CO to Oakland International.  This is the second time I observed this plane in recent weeks.   This aircraft is one of the largest planes in the world.  The plane is schedule to fly to Honolulu later this afternoon.  Per wikipedia the company that flies these large aircraft have contracts to fly rocket boosters, satellites and other space related gear.

Fremont Police Own a Tesla Model S

Great story by Joey Geha of the EBT about how FPD is remodeling a used Tesla Model S for patrol duty.  Getting it out on streets of Fremont is several months away, if it happens.  Read the full story here:
https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2019/01/23/in-fremont-that-silent-car-with-flashing-lights-behind-you-could-be-a-tesla/

I can hear it now "1-A-4 terminating pursuit...my battery is getting low!"  Then you have to wonder how well the F150 will do in a high speed chase up the Nimitz....

Beautiful Day at Central Park

Temperatures are warming up in Fremont under sunny clear blue skies and calm wind.  The warming trend is forecast to peak out at 68 on Sunday afternoon.

Overturned Vehicle on Mowry west of Mission

A pickup truck has overturned on Mowry Avenue under the UPRR tracks landing on its side.  FPD and FFD are on scene.  Early reports were that there were no injuries but an occupant was trapped in the vehicle.  Traffic is being rerouted around the accident.
Update:  Occupant has been removed by firefighters and is being treated by paramedics.

SIDESHOW CLOSES LOCAL FREEWAYS!

California Highway Patrol officers were outnumbered early this morning trying to contain a group of over 100 sideshow vehicles.  Around 2:55 a.m. the sideshow had closed eastbound hwy 84 east of Paseo Padre.   CHP officers along with Fremont Police officers kept an eye on them as traffic came to a halt and fireworks erupted.  The group then moved on to northbound 880 at Alvarado Niles where an active sideshow took place and again blocking all freeway traffic.  CHP officers from Castro Valley and San Jose were called in to assist.  As the group moved north on 880, Hayward Police officers were asked to help out.  By  3:20 a.m. officers had escorted the group across 98th Avenue into Oakland where officers from Oakland would take over monitoring the group.  Late last night CHP dispatchers broadcasted information to area officers that reckless driving vehicles were leaving Sacramento and Stockton for the Bay Area.

I have posted an audio clip of the incident on SoundCloud.com.  Search "ScannerFremont" and the clip should be at the bottom.  The clip starts shortly after 3 a.m.

Newark Action

Newark PD has a house surrounded  and has asked for an FPD K-9 unit.  I'm not sure what the suspect inside is wanted for, but sounded important.  I'm streaming NPD along with FPD and UCPD for awhile.
Update:  Location is Souza Street off of Thornton and west of Cedar.  Fremont has a sergeant and a K-9 unit on scene to assist.
Update at 9:35 pm.  It looks like the event is over.  I think this was a trespass case and the family decided not to press the issue, if I heard it correctly.  All police and fire units are clearing the scene.

Quiet Saturday Night So Far

Offline I'm listening to Fremont, UCPD, Newark, Hayward and CHP.  Nothing significant going on at all.  As I have mentioned before, I think a lot of people are out of  town.  I'll keep listening tho.

Activity on Fremont Blvd

1)  Crash Fremont at Stevenson.  Officers are on the way.
2)  Warrant service off Fremont Blvd  north of Grimmer near Hawkins St.  Subject fled out the back door to waiting officers and they have him in custody.

Saturday Morning Briefing

The overnight hours seemed quiet according to my stats.  No fires or serious car accidents; no spikes in feed listeners.  I don't know how the UCPD stake out went last night.  With sunny skies and warmer temps returning this afternoon, it could be a busy afternoon & night for law enforcement.

Police Activity in the Decoto District

UCPD has located a vehicle of interest in the Decoto District of U.C.  This vehicle did not yield to an officer's red light and fled.  The vehicle has been located but abandoned.  Radio traffic indicates the occupants are of interest for various crimes in other cities.  This may be the same vehicle (Audi SUV) that was wanted from Alhambra Street in Fremont the other night.

Report of a natural gas leak on J between Niles Blvd and 2nd.  Engine 52 now on scene and they can handle- small leak.

Pink Pantherz Espresso

Officers are on the way to Pink Pantherz Espresso, a bikini coffee place down in Warm Springs, on a report of a male  customer inappropriately touching a barista.  From radio traffic the suspect wanted his picture taken with one of the employees and after the photo was taken he stuck his hand under her top.  Suspect is now leaving in a gray Toyota northbound...wait...they are making a stop now by the Warm Springs BART.  Update: victim has positively identified the suspect.

7-11 Sundale

Nothing go on there at the moment, but it's just a matter of time before a call goes out.

New Fremont Airbnb

Rates are cheap and you will receive a complimentary wake up call at 7 a.m.  You will also receive a wake up call at 1 a.m, 4 a.m and 5 a.m.

Stinky Morning at Bed Bath & Beyond

Fremont Fire responded to Bed Bath and Beyond at The Hub just before 9 this morning for a report of a possible natural gas leak.  The fire captain on scene radioed that there was no natural gas smell or indication on their portable equipment, however an employee did say they had a sewer backup last week and there was a whiff of that smell there now.  So, if you want to purchase bathroom rugs today, you will encounter the full effect of your bathroom.  Enjoy!

Friday Briefing

From all accounts it seemed like a quiet night.  No structure fires or serious auto accidents.  This is get-a-way day for the 3 day weekend.  Typically Fremont seems to be quiet on 3 day weekends, however temperatures are forecasted to peak out into the upper 60s Saturday afternoon which may lead to some drinking and associated problems.   We shall find out.

Union Landing Thefts

Within minutes of each other, a grand theft from the Sprint Store and petty theft from Wall Mart at Union Landing in U.C.  Suspects in the grand theft are 2 males while 2 females stole some items from Wall Mart.  The females managed to hit a vehicle as they fled the parking lot.  No injuries to the innocent party.

Stolen Van Just Occurred on Rockett Drive

Officers are on the way to take a report on a stolen white 94 Ford Aerostar Van CA/68799T1.

Taken from Rockett Drive off Paseo Padre (across from Lake Elizabeth).

Union City Robbery

This started out as a report of a trespasser in a backyard possibly trying to get into the neighbors house.  UCPD patrol units were started.  Then another resident calls saying there is a man in his backyard and he said he just got robbed and has a broken hand.  More patrol units head that way to the second address.  The trespasser gives a description of the vehicle and suspects, saying the female had a taser and was over by the Shell station.  More officers head over there.  In the end, it did look like the trespasser was a victim and was trying to flag down residents to phone the police.  A suspect vehicle was stopped with a female.  I don't know if any arrests were made but there was quite a bit of activity around this call.  Good effort by UCPD.

CHP Shutting Down Palomares Road

CHP is en route to shut down southbound Palomares Road due to boulders blocking the southbound lane just north of Niles Canyon Road.  I believe the northbound will remain open.

Thursday Morning Briefing

Seemed like the city was quiet last night despite the stormy weather.  According to Pulse Point, FFD responded to a number of medical calls overnight, but no structure fires or car wrecks.  There were no "listener spikes" on the FPD dispatch stream, so probably quiet on the police side as well.

Auto-Ped Crash in front of Round Table Pizza

FPD on scene of an auto vs. pedestrian accident on Fremont Blvd in Centerville.  Paramedics are on the way.

Police Activity in the Decoto District

A UCPD sergeant tried to stop a vehicle which was slow to pull over after a period of lights and sirens.  Vehicle finally stopped on 13th Street and the driver fled into a nearby home.  Cover units are on the way.  Update:  Subject now in custody.  Sounds like he has some mental issues.  Hope they take away his driver's license (if he has one).

New Car Dealer License Plates Are Out

Many suspect vehicles in crimes have dealer "paper plates" in an effort to avoid being identified.  People also use these plates to avoid tolls on bridges and highways.  A new state law that went into effect this month has outlawed those paper plates and now requires dealerships to issue state plates.  Any vehicle not displaying a license plate is subject to a law enforcement stop.  Hopefully this will deter those planning a crime.  The vehicle below was spotted on Stevenson this afternoon.

Crash in Brookvale area

An FPD officer just pulled up to a traffic accident in front of the Brookvale Fire Station on Fremont Blvd.  Other officers are on the way to assist.  An ambulance is being asked to be dispatched as a precaution for a crash victim.

Pursuit Last Night in the Cabrillo Neighborhood

Just after 11:00 last night FPD responded to Alhambra Drive on a report of a burglary in progress.  First unit on scene observes vehicle pulling away from the address and a pursuit begins.  While the pursuit was taking place additional officers were checking the area for a suspect that fled on foot.  The vehicle chase heads north on the Nimitz but visual contact was lost shortly thereafter.  Suspect vehicle was a black Audi SUV.  Just before midnight a sergeant located a home on Alhambra that may have been struck by the suspect vehicle.   Fremont Fire was called in for an evaluation.  According to Pulse Point FFD was only on scene for 8 minutes, so apparently there was no or minor damage to the home.  I don't know if the suspect that fled on foot was located or not.

Structure Fire on Peralta

Fremont Fire responding to a report of smoke coming from an apartment on Peralta.  This is a senior living facility per fire captain on scene.
Update:  I think this was just a pot on the stove.  Asking for the blowers to clear out the smoke.  Engine companies are being released from the scene.

Police Activity in Niles

Something going down on 3rd Street....FPD rolling code 3.  Sounds like a robbery or assault.  Talk of a handgun or BB gun being used.   Suspect known.   Victim has a gash on his face and PD requesting the paramedics. Questions & Comments

I'm always open to the above.  I've played around with the various options available for commenters.  I thought I could set it for "anonymous" folks as well as those "Google +" readers.  However, it looks like I can only do one or the other.  To include the most people I have set the parameter to "anonymous".  If you are signed into a Google + account and are not allowed to sign in, please let me know.

Fremont Police Blotter MIA

I may be wrong,  but  FPD has published only two police blotters in the last six weeks.  Before that it was published quite infrequently since last Spring.  They may send out an advisory notice  about a major event or investigation, but much crime is not reported to the public.  I'll do my best to inform the public of what is happening on our streets.  Stay tuned!
Update:  at 5:15 this afternoon they came out with the weekend blotter.  However there was no mention of the homeless/mental illness calls that, according to the chief, are 50% of the calls dispatched to.

Woman Robbed at the Hub

Around 1:30 this afternoon a woman was robbed of her purse outside of Target per radio traffic. Male suspect fled in an older gray sedan.  Paramedics responded to treat the woman.

Another CHP Pursuit on 880

North 880 near Marina...chasing a Ferrari 100 mph.  Might be yielding now...nope lost visual.  Units are cancelling.  Well they caught up with it and are now taking it off at 66th Ave, apparently yielding.

Overnight Event

Both my CHP and FPD feeds had a high number of listeners around 1 a.m.  I'm playing back the archives to see what went down.  Have learned that CHP and ACSO were in pursuit of a stolen U-Haul box truck that exited 880 on to Thornton.  Driver took off on foot on Thornton east of 880 and CHP asking for FPD assistance to find driver.  Suspect runs across 880 to the Newark side. Just as the K-9s were starting a search on the west side of 880 at Thornton, a CHP aircraft reported a "hot spot" along the sound wall from his infrared equipment .  Within a few minutes the canines had located the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident.  I do not know where to pursuit started but CHP jumped in around Winton Ave.
