Another Grass Fire- Behind Old Mowry Bowl

Fremont Fire has an engine company on scene down Ford Drive behind the old Mowry Lanes bowling alley putting out a small grass fire.  A male was observed walking away and FPD is enroute.  This seems to be in the area of the railroad tracks by the old drywall plant.  Two engines staying on scene and other companies are clearing.
The man walking away is over at the 7-Eleven at Mowry and Cherry.  I think someone from FFD may be holding the subject for FPD, but he doesn't match the description from the earlier fire, per radio traffic.

Steam Train Fools Police Officer

This happens almost every Sunday.  A citizen, or a police officer in this case, sees a plume of smoke from the Niles Canyon Railway, and assumes it is a fire burning in the canyon.  A phone call is place, or a radio call to dispatch in this case, and the cavalry is on the way!  Seems like there could be better coordination between the railway and public safety agencies when the steam train is operating.

GRASS FIRE ON MOWRY AT OVERACKER

Police officers are on scene and the FD is on the way with a full vegetation response.  Access is on Overacker by the train tracks.  The RR is being shut down.  Those tall dry weeds should have been cut down last week.  Seems like this happens every year.  History repeats.  Next week UPRR will be out clearing all along Overacker...a week too late.  Mowry and Overacker being shut down.  Half acre with no structures threatened per crew on scene.
Update- from radio chatter this seems like it started inside a homeless encampment located in the area between Overacker and Mowry along the tracks.  FPD is actively looking for an arson suspect.  Apparently they have a description of a suspect.  A drone is en route to assist or perhaps just to take videos of the fire area.

Command Post at the north end of Overacker at the bend.

Transient Lights Garbage Can on Fire

Several callers, including one bus driver, say a transient or two have lit a garbage can on fire at a bus stop near Bay Street Coffee at Five Corners.  The can was reported to be "blazing".  An officer is on scene now and advising that the fire is out.

L.A. Times Story About Meth & Homelessness

Another good story by L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez.  This one about drug addiction and homelessness in Los Angeles.  While this takes place 350 miles from Fremont, the situation here seems to be quite similar.  The story mentions that about 30% of the homeless are drug/alcohol addicted or mentally ill.  That number seems low for Fremont, but I'm only an observer.  And one thing I learned is that someone high on meth can act out like they are mentally ill.

Sideshow in Ardenwood Area

Several offices are enroute to the Ardenwood area for a report of shots being fired.  They believe this may be related to sideshow activity.
CHP advising their units that sideshow cars are leaving Union Landing and heading south on 880.
A utility worker in the area has not heard any gun shots or cars racing.  Officers are staging in the area now.
Update at 9:50 p.m.  Officers advise that there is no sideshow in the area.

Photo of the Day

About once a day a red nosed Norwegian Air B787 Dreamliner flies over Fremont while en route to Oakland.  I believe all of their flights to OAK originate in Europe.  A few minutes ago the flight from Copenhagen flew over.  At around 4:25 this afternoon their flight from Paris will fly over Fremont.

Sleeping Transients

Two calls this morning (so far).   Over by Sweet Tomatoes a citizen tried to wake up a transient who was down on the ground.  When he didn't respond,  9-1-1 was called and the police and fire depts responded.  Turns out he was conscious and breathing, but complained about his hand.  Then over at Centerville Park, a transient is sleeping on a park bench with his pants down.  Partially described as having red underwear.  And it's not even 11:00 a.m.
Update at 1:30 Another one...Walnut near Fremont..unconscious with his pants down.

Milpitas Man Arrested in 680 Murder

WeirdoTaking Pictures at The Hub

A victim of an up-skirt photo taken by a male at The Hub has many officers looking around the area for him.  According to the victim, the man got on the ground inside of a store and took pictures from his phone up women's skirts.  He was last seen walking toward Party City.  The dispatcher said UCPD had a similar recently at WalMart.  In that case the victim took  the phone from the suspect.  Several FPD officers are patrolling The Hub at this time.

Photo of the Day

This 600 + high end apartment complex should always be remembered as former Mayor Bill Harrison's doing.  He could have stopped it if he wanted.  He did get it reduced from 800 to something around 650 apartments...but big deal.   The City should rename Guardino Drive (I"m still mad at the Guardino family for selling to these developers) to Bill Harrison Way, so we will all remember who was responsible.

Looking south from Guardino near Litchfield.

Rescue at Union City BART; Fatality

ACFD is on scene on the west platform at the Union City BART station for a rescue.  No further info available at this time.
Update- this appears to be a person struck by a BART train and located under the third car, and deceased, per radio traffic from crew on scene.

In Oakland, Men With Assault Rifles Rob Armored Truck

Two men with assault rifles robbed an armored truck outside a bank in Oakland this morning.  The take was "considerable".  The FBI is working with OPD on this.  I thought robbing a UPS truck of cell phones at a phone store was gutsy, but this is some serious stuff.  And crime trends that start in Oakland seem to work there way down to Fremont.  Here is the story from the EBT:

Theft at Smart and Final

A not so smart man made a final decision  this morning to steal two bags of charcoal.  On the way out he apparently told the clerk that if he touched him he would hit him.  So the theft is now technically a robbery.  Probably a transient needing the charcoal to cook over.  Now sounds like they are in foot pursuit of the suspect on Lexington from Mowry.  They have him.  Gonna put him in a wrap...must have been a struggle.

Overturned Big Rig on Blacow

A big rig has overturned on Blacow near Grimmer a few minutes ago.  The driver will be able to exit from the windshield area.  Apparently no other vehicles or persons are involved.  An ambulance is continuing for the driver.  FPD is en route to investigate and to provide traffic control.
Update:  An officer has asked for a PAS, which is a device for a roadside breath test.  They must suspect the driver of drinking.

Fight at Homeless Shelter; Staff Person Assaulted

Several officers are on the way to the homeless shelter on Brown Road in Warm Springs on a report of a fight breaking out.  A staff member is reported to have been assaulted as well.  An officer is on scene and requesting the ambulance to come in.  The officer has now put out a code 4.  The suspect is on the ground complaining of a medical issue not related to the fight.

Another Crazy Man on the Loose

Several callers to FPD about a male acting out on Mowry and walking towards Fremont Blvd.  He was seen swinging traffic cones around and acting weird.  A few officers are en route.

How Much $$ Do FPD Officers Earn?

Checking the website TransparentCalifornia, I was able to see what FPD officers earn.  Looking at 2018 info I found what I believe is the highest paid officer and the lowest.  There are several officers making less money, but they may not have worked a full year.  Here is the website for Fremont:

Map of Fremont Police Zones

To further enhance your scanner listening, I have copied a link to FPD's web page that has a map of their zones.  The patrol unit numbers are based on the zones they patrol.  The first digit of their call sign is the zone.  For example, 1X2, patrols zone 1.  2X5 patrols zone 2, etc.  While I'm at it, the second character is their shift.  A=  midnight X= day O= swing  K= canine S= sergeant L= lieutenant.   Hope this helps and enjoy the online scanner.

The Sad and the Mentally Ill

Listening in on the ambulance to hospital channel, I hear a 66 year old man being brought in for withdrawal symptoms.  Seems he ran out of methadone.  I didn't think someone could live that long being addicted to an opioid.  But I suppose this could be a recent addiction.  Then a call comes over FPD dispatch about a woman saying there is a "vehicle stuck in her rear end".  Now I know we have some asshole drivers in Fremont....the dispatcher said she was well known for having a mental illness.

Sacramento PD Body Cam Video

Below is a link to the Sacramento Police Department's YouTube video of the shooting of their rookie officer last week. The video does not show the shooting, but is from the body camera of an officer nearby.  The sound of the automatic rifle fire is quite sobering.  Officers had no chance at all and this highlights the danger of the dreaded 415 family call.

Fire at Motel 6

Fremont Fire companies were dispatched at 6 o'clock (isn't this ironic) to the Motel 6 in north Fremont for a reported fire.  This one alarm fire has four engine crews and a truck crew on scene.  Evacuations of some rooms are in progress.  As of this writing it appears that the fire is out.
Update at 7:20 a.m.  Just heard a fire fighter at a hospital in San Jose say he was ready for pick up.  Typically this means he went with the paramedics to the hospital and his company is one of those at the Motel 6.  So, it appears that someone was injured.

Police Arrest Crazy Man at Ranch Market

A crazy transient looking man was arrested at the Ranch Market in Warm Springs this evening. The reporting party said the man used an object to break into the Ranch Market and then was playing with a shopping cart. The reporting party then said he was acting crazy . Minutes later he took off all his clothes. Officers arrived and took him in to custody.

Wreck at Fremont and Stevenson; Vehicle Overturned

Fremont police and fire personnel are on scene of a vehicle accident on Fremont at Stevenson.  Traffic at the intersection is a mess and several police officers are there controlling traffic.

Police Activity at Farwell and Mowry

There is a subject with a felony want near Farwell and Mowry that officers are asking for assistance with.  They also asked for a supervisor.  Presently four officers and a sergeant are on scene.  Sounds like the suspect is in a patrol vehicle but banging his head around.

Officer Needs Help Call at Washington Hosptial

A Newark officer has asked for code 3 cover at WTH.  The Newark dispatcher believes he was in a fight.  Fremont is responding numerous officers code 3.  Two units are on scene now.
A code 4 has just been put out...apparently the situation is under control.

Hillside Fire Investigation

Here is the story from NBC Bay Area...looks like it was 12-15 acres total.
** Update from FPD...they are not sure of the cause...probably NOT caused by transients or fireworks.  Not sure if intentionally set or accidental.

Attempted Hanging at Fremont Jail

Per radio traffic an inmate attempted to hang himself in his jail cell moments ago.   Correctional officers were able to bring him down.  FPD officers are on the way.  No further details as to his condition or how serious an attempt this was.

Fire In The Hills Above Niles

Fremont Fire responding to a veg fire in the hills east of Nursery Ave.  Fire visible from quite a large area.  Fremont Police responding for traffic control.  Numerous callers on this. First crew on scene saying its 3-4 acres and burning up hill.  I don't believe wind is a factor...calm outside of Niles.
Cal Fire is en route as well so expect to hear more sirens throughout the city.  Only 4 wheel drive fire rigs are able to access the area.  Now saying 2 acres of grass, brush and oak trees.
*** Evacuations in progress along a portion of Mission Blvd***

THIS IS NOW A TWO ALARM FIRE.

From radio traffic this will be a labor intensive fire due to the steep terrain.  Many fire fighters and hose will be required.  No structures threatened.  Slowly backing down hill and about five acres.  Per radio traffic they should be able to cut it off at the head as soon as crews arrive.

Update at 10:55 they have a line around the fire and no flames.  Starting the mop up operation.
Alameda County and Hayward Fire are covering Fremont fire stations at this time.

YouTube Video of FPD Questioning a Pedestrian

Interesting video- was like watching the TV show Cops.  The conversation reminded me a bit of Laurel and Hardy, and would be funny, except for the seriousness of the encounter.  Officer gave his badge number as 14898 but there seems to be no way to trace that on the web.  Runs about 7 minutes and was interesting watching him run  a 29 on the subject.

Scanner Going Down Again

Hope to have it back up in an hour or so (5 p.m.).  Going to take longer...7 at the earliest.
Back in service as of about 8:15 p.m.

Serious Accident on Mission at Mohave

Police and fire personnel responded to a traffic accident on Mission at Mohave around 12:23 this morning.  A sergeant said one victim "had a pulse and will be transported".  A traffic officer was called out on overtime to investigate.  Fremont Fire was requested a few hours later to provide lighting.  This crew remained on scene for almost two hours.  No further details are known.

5 Weeks Since Niles Assault

Five weeks ago a man was brutally beaten to death in the patio of Devout Coffee on Niles Blvd.  Fremont Police are now calling this a "death investigation".  Was it not murder?  And they have yet to even acknowledge the name of the vicim.  His name is Thad Steiner.  Here is a link to his GoFundMe page:
https://www.gofundme.com/thad-steiner-memorial

He lived in Niles according to friends and internet data.  He also was an educated man with a degree out of Chico.  Here is a link to what I believe is his LinkedIn page:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/thad-steiner-6833aa80?trk=public_profile_samename_mini-profile_title

While FPD claims "We have a strong history of transparency with our community on major cases", this, apparently, is not one of them.  This investigation has been very opaque.  Perhaps the suspect/suspects in this case are attached to a number of other crimes and all the players need to be gathered up and eventually there will be a number of arrests and cases solved.  Seems like only something that big could justify the silence on this death.  Maybe we will find out before summer ends.

Naked Transient Running In The Street

Just another night in Fremont...a Fremont Fire company witnessed a naked person running in the street at Walnut and California.  They are turning their rig around and try to help this poor soul.  An FPD officer has just arrived.

Police Activity in the Walnut- Cherry Area

Officers have all involved detained now after a suspect escaped in a car and crashed at the end of Ridgeview Terrace.  Previously two or three people were detained.  What started this event is unknown to Fremont Streets at this time.  There was a call for paramedics for a few people who "dropped acid" (I think I heard that right).  Several officers are in the area interviewing witnesses and taking care of the suspects.
Update- Originally dispatched as a fight between two males and one of the males was trying to enter the residence on Rosegate Terrace.  Dispatched at about 7:15 p.m.

Scanner Going Down Tonight for Upgrades

The Fremont Police Dispatch live stream will be going down tonight in order to install some hardware and software upgrades.  If all goes well, the process should take 30-60 minutes.  I'll try to pick a time when all hell is NOT breaking loose.  Look for this to happen sometime between 7 and 9 tonight.
Update:  between 9 and 10 now.

Free Stuffed Animals at Starbucks

A transient female is handing out stuffed animals from her cart at the Starbucks in Irvington if anyone is interested.  Officers are on the way.

Police Activity Dixon Landing Road

Numerous Fremont police officers are searching the area of Fremont Boulevard, Dixon Landing Road, and 880 for a man possibly armed.
Subject has two felony wants and is believed to be armed with a handgun.
Officers were originally dispatched to the area around 730 this morning at the request of Fremont fire department. Fremont fire was requesting code 3 assistance at the scene of a medical call where the driver was trying to leave the scene apparently intoxicated.
Assets on scene include a CHP aircraft, a canine, and a drone.

Auto Burglary on Mowry

A vehicle parked in the lot by Country Way cafe on Mowry near 880 was burglarized a few minutes ago.
Update at 8:45  Sounds like more victims at Starbucks and Denny's across the street.  One victim, per radio traffic, had her car UNLOCKED and her purse stolen.

Police Speak On Niles Death; No New Info

The following was sent out on the Next Door app.  To my knowledge this info was not sent out via other social media, probably in order to hide it from the popular media.  Here is their post on Next Door this afternoon:

May 19th - Suspicious Death Investigation (Niles)
We have received a couple of recent inquiries regarding the ongoing death investigation in Niles. The case remains active and we hope to have a more thorough update to provide in the near future. We are aware of some rumors and misinformation that has spread regarding the case. As a department, are always very careful not to speculate and try to only share factual information. In many instances, cases are very quick to investigate and conclude, but unfortunately this is not one of them. We have a strong history of transparency with our community on major cases, and once we can share more detail, we will. These are the facts of the case we have available at this time: On Sunday, May 19, 2019, at ‪around 8:00 pm‬ Fremont Fire responded to a man down medical call in the vicinity of ‪the Florence Bar‬ on Niles Blvd. The man was suffering from a head injury and was transported to a trauma center. It wasn’t evident at the time, nor was information provided, regarding the potential cause of the man’s injury. Early the following morning, our department was notified that the man was suffering from a life threatening injury. Crimes Against Persons Detectives and CSI’s responded out to the area where they cordoned off the bar and adjacent courtyard. Detectives served a warrant and have been speaking to potential witnesses and associates since that time.    It’s believed that a fight may have occurred, but the specific circumstances have remained under investigation. The man remained hospitalized on life support for several days. Currently detectives are waiting for the Alameda County Coroners autopsy report before they can conclude the criminal investigation. Until then this remains an active investigation classified as a suspicious death. If anyone has information about this case and would like to speak with detectives, please call 510-790-6900.

30 Days Later FPD Still Silent on Niles Murder

It was a cool dark Sunday night when an apparent brutal assault went down next door to The Florence in the Niles District.  The victim, who lived nearby, was transported to Eden Hospital where he apparently succumbed to his injuries.  Fremont PD commented briefly on the incident in their weekly patrol blotter, but has been silence since.  A man was murdered in public on Niles Blvd and even the barest details have been kept from the public.  Contrast this with the unfortunately motorcycle accident yesterday morning in Warm Springs.  Within hours we knew that the road was closed and that something serious happened.  Later that day we had more details of how the accident happened and that the motor rider was killed.  This was a felony hit and run.  In both cases a man died and it both cases a felony was involved and the suspect was outstanding.  Yet a man murdered in Niles apparently does not rate the courtesy of the police department to at least acknowledge what happened and to assure the public that a killer is not on the loose.  Or is there a killer on the loose?

No major news organization has done a story on this homicide.  Here is a link to the original post:

Texting 9-1-1 Is Here

Nixle message from FPD:

Voice calls to 9-1-1 are still the BEST and the FASTEST way to contact 9-1-1

The Fremont Police Department Dispatch Center is now accepting Text-to-911 services.   Wireless customers in the City of Fremont can now send a text, up to 140 characters, to 9-1-1 in an emergency.  Text-to-911 should only be used in an emergency situation, when placing a call is not possible: For instance, if the caller is deaf, hard of hearing, speech impaired, or when speaking out loud would put the caller in danger.  An emergency situation is defined as an inherently dangerous situation demanding an immediate response on the part of a police officer.  Non-emergency calls, requests and non-urgent tips will not be accepted through the Text-to-911 service.

If there is an emergency and you are unable to make a call, remember these steps:
• Don’t text and drive
• In the first text message send the location and type of emergency
• Text in simple words - send a short text message without abbreviations or slang
• You are limited to 140 letters/numbers per text
• Be prepared to answer questions and follow instructions from the 9-1-1 call taker

Don’t Abuse 9-1-1 – Text to 9-1-1 service is ONLY for emergencies.
It is a crime to text or call 9-1-1 with a false report.

The Text-to-911 service will have many challenges:
• A text or data plan is required to place a 9-1-1 text.
• As with all text messages, messages to 9-1-1 may take longer to receive, may get out of order, or in some rare cases, may not be received at all.
• If you do not receive a text response from 9-1-1, try to contact 9-1-1 another way.
• Photos and videos cannot be sent to 9-1-1 via text at this time.
• Text-to-911 cannot include more than one person. Do not send your
emergency text to anyone other than 9-1-1.  Voice calls to 9-1-1 are still the BEST and FASTEST way to contact 9-1-1.
• Text messages cannot be forwarded to an outside agency such as Fire or EMS.  In those situations, a dispatcher will call and verbally relay the information.

Non-emergencies:

To place a non-emergency call or report a non-urgent (not in progress) tip, please call 510-790-6800 x 3.

House Fire on Old Canyon Road

Fremont firefighters are working on a house fire at 945 Old Canyon Road.  They were dispatched at 1:19 p.m.  3 engines are on scene and another engine and a truck are en route.   Initial report is that smoke was showing from all sides in the attic area.
Update:  they have knockdown on the fire, which is in the basement, as of 1:40.  The building appears to be abandoned.

Crazy Man at Cloverleaf Bowl

Officers are on the way to the parking lot of Cloverleaf Bowl on a report of a man, possibly on drugs, kicking cars and yelling.

Today's Fremont Chase

A patrol officer spotted a vehicle with a felony want at Target at The Hub around 5:15 this afternoon.  The officer put a stop on it and a pursuit began.  The rather low speed pursuit seemed to go up and down Blacow and Farwell between Mowry and Stevenson.  The pursuit finally ended at Blacow and Stevenson after a PIT maneuver (Pursuit Intervention Technique) was accomplished.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Naked Report

Over the weekend at an apartment complex off of Walnut a naked man was reported laying around the pool area.  Just now down in Warm Springs a topless woman was spotted near a freeway on ramp.

Police Activity Farwell near Mowry

Fremont police officers are investigating a residential burglary that occurred on Farwell near the Elks Lodge.  Suspects were last seen running along the wall by the Extended Stay. Officers believed the suspects may be headed for a homeless encampment by the northbound 880 on-ramp at Mowry. Officers have now taken two suspects in custody at the homeless encampment.  Upon further investigation this seems like a trespass situation and apparently nothing was taken from the residence, but the suspects may have been living in the house.

OPD Copter Flying Over Fremont (Updated)

OPD copter "Argus" was observed over Vargas Plateau Regional Park this morning, flying low and almost landing on a trail on the west side.  It was then observed flying west towards Hayward.  30 minutes later or so it was again observed flying low south eastbound along Mission Blvd.  There is no unusual chatter on the radio.  Perhaps this is a training mission.

Update:  A blog reader provided a track of Argus showing it departing Oakland and  following a straight line down Mission Blvd into San Jose and beyond.  I checked a flight tracker and found a copter over Vargas at 9:00 a.m. at a low altitude.  It then climbed and flew to Coyote Hills where it descended, then climbed again and landed at Hayward.  Perhaps this latter copter was a regional park contract flight of some sort.

Police Activity off Beard

Fremont officers are off on what sounds like a disturbance call in the north end off of Beard.   Officer arriving on scene asked for back up officers to "step it up".  The subject in question may be armed and family members were sleeping inside.  The subject was quickly detained and a code 4 was put out.

Fremont Police Radio Codes (rebroadcast)

For my new viewers and listeners, here is a post initially put out a few months back that may be helpful in understanding police radio traffic.

On occasion a listener to the FPD live stream will inquire about the meaning of the various codes heard on the stream.  The various Penal Code (PC) and California Vehicle Code (CVC) sections are easily available on the internet.  However, I did find a a nice site with both the local radio codes as well as popular penal, vehicle and health & safety codes.  If you have further questions or corrections to what is listed, please email me here:  bluebag@yahoo.com   Here is the link:

Police Activity at Warm Springs BART

Around 1030 last night BART police received information that a Ford Mustang parked in the Warm Springs parking lot may have something suspicious attached to it. They called for the Alameda County Bomb Squad to help them determine the seriousness  of the attachment. They also said no assistance from Fremont police was required.

Several officers are in the area of Cherry and Mowry investigating a fight involving several teenagers. Paramedics are standing by for any victims. Officers do have some teens stopped.  Several citizens have called this in and one of them reported that three subjects were beating up one teen with about 10 others watching.

Another Death in Warm Springs

An officer was flagged down around 8:37 this evening at the Days Inn on Warm Springs Blvd.  A man was found deceased nearby by a citizen.  Appears to have been a suicide.

DAD TO SON: "YOU SHOULD HANG YOURSELF"

Every now and then something rolls out the scanner speaker that catches you off guard.  Something new and disturbing.  Fremont schools ended today and grades went home.  Apparently the father of one teenager who lives in the Mission San Jose attendance area was not happy.  "You should hang yourself" the teen told police dispatchers this afternoon is what his father said apparently after seeing his report card.   The mother called police later saying her son was talking about suicide because of his grades.  Dispatchers could hear the boy crying in the background.  "You should hang yourself".  What is wrong with this dad?  Who would say that to their kid?  This is an Asian family and it is well known in Fremont that Asian kids going to Mission are under enormous pressure to produce excellent grades.  "You should hang yourself".  What is wrong with these parents?  Assuming the dad was only trying to motivate his son, could he not think of a more positive approach?  Fremont sent a patrol officer  along with one of their Mental Evaluation Team members.  In this case, it seems, it's the parents that need evaluating.

Death Investigation in Warm Springs

Fremont Police officers are investigating a death in a residential neighborhood off of Gable.  Friends of the deceased contacted FPD, per radio traffic, concerned about a friend of theirs.  They could see him apparently through a window, on the ground in the residence with blood around him.   An officer said the paramedics were not needed, that it was clear the party was deceased.

Fake California License Plate

Worth a read here about a fake plate spotted by a Moorpark motor officer:

Wednesday Afternoon Wrap Up

On this late Spring afternoon, with the temperature hovering in the lower 90s, a few hight school students managed to get into a fight with each other.  Officers responded to the area of Central and Joseph and then over to a nearby car wash, where they confronted the students.  At least one school resource officer responded as well.  Paramedics were called in for at least one victim.
Then several citizens reported a weirdo roaming the Glenmoor neighborhood.  The man was wearing a bathrobe and at one point was standing around Mattos Elementary.  Some reported that he had nothing on underneath his robe.  A few parents followed the man until officers could intercept him.  He was arrested for the drug charges and transported to Fremont Jail.  I guess anyone wearing a bathrobe in public on a hot day is either mentally ill or on drugs.  Or both.

2nd Fire at Quarry Lakes Today

Fremont Fire fighters are trying to access a grass fire in the area of Shinn and the Alameda Creek Trail and BART right now.  Earlier this morning they were over near the entrance to Quarry Lakes.  Sounds like an engine company has a line to the fire now.  The captain is requesting the BART line be shut down as the fire is right up to the third rail.

FPD Twitter

Reviewing one week's worth of tweets from Fremont PD I found exactly four tweets.  One was the weekly (should be daily) blotter,  another was about the motor unit competing in Fairfield.  And something about a 5K run.  And a retweet about animals in heat.  I mean animals out in the heat. Still no news about the Niles homicide.  No news about helping people during the heat wave.  Sadly, pretty much business as usual.  Again, we are on the edge of Silicon Valley and the PD is not using social media anywhere near its potential.

Fremont Police Department participated in the Fairfield Motor Competition this past weekend. Officer Ramsey took 1st and Officer Malcomson took 2nd in the BMW blue classification. Congratulations to all who participated and great 👍🏽 job Officer Ramsey and Officer Malcomson.

Is Conservatorship The Answer to Clean Fremont Streets of Mentally Ill?

I've been pushing for some way to take the chronic mentally ill that can't care for themselves and act out in public off the streets.  Little did I know that San Francisco has been working on legislation to accomplish this for over a year now.  SB 1405 authorizes S.F, L.A. and San Diego to involuntarily remove individuals from the streets if they have been 5150d at least 8 times in the past year.  They would then be housed and treated for their problems.  Here is a story about it from KQED:

https://www.kqed.org/news/11742865/should-s-f-be-able-to-compel-mentally-ill-homeless-people-into-treatment

If successful, perhaps the authority will be granted statewide and then Fremont will have a legal means to remove these troubled people that have no business roaming the streets.  They need help- not jail.  The 5150 mental health 72 hour hold is not working for many of the problem people on our streets.  Something permanent is needed.

AirBnB Gone Bad on Curtner

At a large  party at an AirBnB on Curtner last night a person said a man threaten to shoot somebody in the closet. A gun was not observed but about 15 people were in the house.  Numerous Fremont officers responded code 3. After arriving they pulled about 15 people out of the house with their hands up.  As of this writing it is unknown if any arrests were made.

Car Jack and Pursuit

Details are limited but a victim was robbed and car jacked around 12:30 this morning.  Suspect vehicle located in the neighborhood west of the Hub.  Suspect tried to ram police vehicle and pursuit started.  Pursuit ended near Mowry and Blacow.  At least one of four suspects arrested.
Update- looks like this occurred up Morrison Canyon where a guy was robbed of his house keys and car. Sounds like involved knew each other and met up there.  Drug deal gone bad?

Vacation

FremontStreets will be out of the office for 7-8 days and posts will be few and far between.  I will be able to monitor the dispatch feed remotely and hopefully be able to correct any tech issues that may happen.  See you all next week!

Promiscuous Shooting Outside Sabercat Neighborhood

Numerous officers are on Sabercat Road near the gate investigating the shooting from a gun.  Per radio traffic, a male shot at least one 9mm round up the hill towards a home.  At least one casing was found in the road.  Officers have a good description of the suspect and vehicle.

Teslas Too Cool to Bear Front Plate

Why is it that the owner of an $80,000 car cannot seem to have the time, money or skill to post a front license plate?  On occasion the vehicle is new and there is a temporary plate on the rear, but more often than not, there is a permanent plate on the rear, but none up front.  I took some photos at the charging station at Target at The Hub and in the parking lot this morning.  8 out of 10 random Teslas without front plates!

Good Morning Fremont

Fremont suddenly has come alive this morning.  First a 415 music call in zone 2 by the freeway.  Citizen complaining of a construction crew playing music loudly.  She asked them to turn it down and they turned it up.  However, before officers could arrive at this call they were diverted to a two car accident where one car ended up in a yard. Unknown if anyone was injured, but looks like paramedics did not respond.  And then in zone 3 at the Burger King at Five Corners, a male talking loudly to no one, walking in the street AND his pants are lowered, but thankfully he is not exposing himself.  With the warmer weather and this start of the day, it could be a very busy night for the P.D.

Robot Burns at Tesla

This sounds like something you would see at Burning Man out in the northern Nevada desert- a large mechanical robot burning to the ground.  Well, at a Tesla facility on Page Road, south of the main plant, a robot burned this morning.  And according to radio traffic, this isn't the first time it caught fire.  Fremont firefighters were dispatched at 6:50 this morning and the first company on scene reported light smoke coming from inside the building.  The fire was mostly out by the time of their arrival.
