Fremont's Violent Spring

There has been an unusual amount of violence on Fremont streets this Spring.  We are not used to that.  We are used to our stuff being stolen, whether a laptop from our car, a bicycle or car at home, or, on rare occasion, our home being broken into.  But until recently we didn't worry about physical harm while out and about around town.  That all seemed to have changed over the last five weeks or so.  On April 8th a man was shot in broad daylight in the parking lot of Lucky's on Mowry.  The police are tight lipped on this and no suspect has been arrested.  This may be a random act; not a targeted victim.  And a man was attacked by a mentally ill woman with a cricket bat on Fremont at Sundale.  He was taken to the hospital with head injuries.  She was arrested.  A random act.  Last week 3 men entered a Warm Springs residence, held the woman occupant at gun point while they ransacked the house.  Another random act, it appears.  This past Monday a mentally ill man assaulted three innocent people outside the Safeway at Five Corners.  He was arrested and the 3 victims were treated by paramedics for their injuries.  Tonight a woman in Niles was shoved to the ground and robbed of her purse.  He fled in a vehicle towards Union City.  The suspect was probably a career criminal.  A shooting took place last Saturday on Blacow Road.  The suspect and victim knew each other and had a dispute over money.  The victim is expected to live.  While this was not random, it did occur in an open area off of a public street.  I may have missed a few felonies as FPD does not publish a blotter of events like they did in years past, unfortunately.  Maybe they don't want us to know.

  1. Thank you for posting this. I have been thinking the same thing. It’s definitely dangerous to be out and about anymore. Grant it this SIP you would think less crime but that’s not the case. It has increased. Home invasions have increased as well which is another surprise. So far there has been only one homeowner that actually defended himself by using a firearm because they tried to run him over to get away.

I truly believe the $0 bail has a lot to do with it. Cite and release which is nuts. Like the dude that stole all of the face masks, etc and they cited and released him. Really? You know damn well they are not going to show up for court.

Or violent rapist that was just released. SMDH.

    1. Agreed. Repeat offenders know they have no bail. Just on the hand and back on the street to do another crime. Need to put all of these criminals in a jail in the central valley with a bail they can not make. Let's get tough on crime.
