A small grass fire broke out around 2:45 this morning at an encampment near the Vallejo Mill Historical Park in Niles Canyon. Fremont Fire personnel on scene reported a 20 foot by 20 foot grass fire area that was quickly put out by the Niles fire company. Initially a full Fremont vegetation response, along with Cal Fire, was dispatched. Niles Canyon Road was ordered closed by the BC, but that was cancelled a few minutes later when the resources needed were reduced. The fire captain confirmed it was an encampment fire with much debris burning requiring the use of foam to properly extinguish the fire. The captain said an arson investigator was not needed. Crews were on scene for 30 minutes.
So much for clearing them out of there.
