Private Attorney Defending Father David

According to Alameda County court documents, Father Hector "David" Vela, formerly a priest at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Niles, may have a private attorney defending him.  Documents list a Mr. Ruben Torres Munoz as his defense attorney.  The Oakland Diocese of the Catholic Church has said that they are not, and will not, fund his defense.  Father David continues to be held without bail at Santa Rita County Jail.  He was last in court July 10th for a plea hearing.  Court records indicate that his case may be heading to trial.  A pretrial hearing is scheduled on August 16th.
