Call it bad luck or bad timing, but several car loads of teens showed up at Los Cerritos Community Park minutes after a gun call was dispatched to that location at 9:47 p.m. last night. The teens were believed to have just left a large party that officers were out at earlier. Upon police arrival at the park, the suspect vehicle in the brandishing of a handgun was gone, but several groups of teens took off running. At least six patrol cars were in the area and 2-3 foot chases were going down simultaneously. Some 10-12 teens were eventually stopped at several locations around American High and the park, some proned out at gun point. The victim of the brandishing did not want to prosecute nor try to identify any of the teens stopped. Parents were called to come and get their children. Some teens may have been cited for 148PC, failing to obey an order by a peace officer. There was some concern of a possible break in at the Brookvale Elementary School next door, but that was cleared about an hour later. Service levels were reduced citywide for close to an hour due to the number of officers tied up on this call.
