FREMONT OFFICER SHOOTS TWO THEFT SUSPECTS IN UNION CITY

Fremont officers chased grand theft suspects up 880 into Union City around 6:55 this evening.  The vehicle, with 3 suspects, turned into Balmoral Street, a dead end street.  Shots were fired by a police officer and struck two occupants of the vehicle.  UCPD was also on scene, but it is believed an FPD officer fired the rounds.  More to follow....
The theft occurred at Sephora Cosmetics and Beauty Supply on Christy St in Pacific Commons.  The report was three males with large bags sweeping items off the shelf.  An officer on scene described the suspect vehicle as a black SUV with no plates and was heading down Auto Mall towards 880.  A Fremont officer was waiting on 880 at Stevenson in case the vehicle fled north towards Oakland.
According to radio traffic from the ambulance to a trauma center, one person shot is a 30 year old male with a gun shot wound to the top of the head and also may have injuries from the traffic collision.  His respiratory rate was low but paramedics issued Norcan to bring the rate up.  The other gun shot wound suspect, the driver, was shot in the chest.  They were transported to different hospitals.
Note:  Excellent work by the veteran dispatcher.
Note:  Balmoral Street is located east of 880 off of Alvarado-Niles Blvd.
Note:  Pursuit lasted 7 minutes.
Note:  Two suspects shot and transported to separate hospitals.  No apparent injuries to the officers.
Note:  The shots were fired almost immediately after the vehicles came to a stop.  UCPD confirms only one FPD officer fired shots.
Note:  Unit that started the pursuit:  3O9 with 3O3 close behind.  2O7 joined in on 880 at Alvarado.

This from FPD Twitter seems to confirm that the shots were fired by FPD officers:

Fremont Patrol Officers were involved in an officer involved shooting in Union City around 7:00 pm this evening on Balmoral Street following a pursuit. This will be investigated by @UnionCityPD_CA.

Fremont Man Arrested in Oakland for Assault

A Fremont man with a history of violence was arrested yesterday in Oakland for felony assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges.  Since March of 2019, Mr. Moses has been arrested 7 times for assault.  While data on convictions is not available, this seems to be a violent man that should be kept off the streets.  Here is a partial rap sheet:

TEENS ATTACK RANGER AT SKATE PARK; TWO ARRESTED

Two teens attacked a city park ranger at the skate park in Central Park around 5:50 last night.  The ranger was struck in the head with a skateboard and requested an ambulance.  A second ranger followed the suspects to a nearby restroom where they attacked a citizen there.  They then fled on the skateboards north on Paseo and then west on Mission View.   Numerous officers flooded the area.  Several witnesses pointed out to officers the track of the two teen suspects.  One boy suspect was reported to be 17 years old and the other about 15. An alert sergeant located the suspects at 6:24 on Stevenson by the library.  The two fled north on Civic Center into the Kaiser Hospital parking lot.  A detective saw the teens, held them at gun point.  The sergeant was there in short order to assist.  They likely will be charged with a felony, assault with a deadly weapon (245 PC).

note 1:  Thanks to Hotrod Honey for the tip.
note 2:  The veteran dispatcher working the event did an excellent job.

Police Activity End of Beard Road Last Night

Unfortunately this appears to be a man who successfully committed suicide with a handgun.  He called dispatchers around 11:35 last night with his location and intentions.  Officers were able to locate him in his car via the fire department drone in the Beard Staging Area to the Alameda Creek Trail.  By midnight they were able to safely approach, secure the gun and check for a pulse.  FFD had been on scene standing by.  A CSI was also on scene.

Police Activity on Mowry at Civic Center; Juvenile Bicyclists Cited

A motor officer requesting help at Mowry and Civic Center due to a large group of people throwing objects at the officers. Numerous officers responding code 3.  A minute later the crowd had dispersed.  Not sure if this began as a traffic stop or an accident investigation.  Now an officer on Stivers is out with a group of ten.
Update;  This is a group of bicyclists, some or all juvenile riders, that are the issue here.  This may be the same group that people have been calling about almost every weekend since last summer.  Sounds like at least a dozen of them and in the past they have been driving all over the hub and city streets causing near misses and hindering traffic.
Update:  A sergeant on scene advises that this is not the local group that had been causing problems, but a new crew from San Leandro-Hayward.  The Watch Commander does not want them getting any slack...doesn't want them to return to Fremont.  Officers will jack them up for no helmet and impeding traffic as they were riding in the two slow lanes of Mowry.  Also resisting arrest for those that fled when told to stop.  Some kids will be going to the station and their parents will be called, others will be issued a cite, depending on the severity of the crime.
More..numerous calls about these kids came in around 3:15 as they were on Mowry and Cherry, driving in the traffic lanes, doing wheelies, not letting cars pass, etc.  There were about 50 of them.  An officer said these were probably the same kids that were in Niles earlier.

$20,000 Worth of Perfume Stolen at Ulta

Four men took $20K worth of perfume from the Ulta at Pacific Commons around 8:50 this evening.  According to police radio traffic the men stuffed the perfume in trash bags, exited the store and into a getaway car waiting for them.  A bulletin went out immediately to all local police agencies with a description of the suspect vehicle.

Police Activity in Mission San Jose (Updated)

Still working on the details, but looks like a residential burglary suspect may still be inside a residence.  The location is somewhere in the area of Ohlone College and St. Joseph's Church along the hillside.   One witness said a man with a mask on broke into the house.  Numerous officers and the K-9 are in the area.  The FD has been called for their heat seeking drone.  A request for a second K-9 has just been put out (update: Regional Parks K-9 coming from Pleasanton).
Update:  location is Monticello Terrace and the call was dispatched about 6:20 p.m. and first officer arrived on scene six minutes later.
Update:  at around 8:30 the officers concluded their search without locating any suspects.

Info from FPD via Nixle:

Fremont Detectives are investigating a residential burglary that occurred Thursday evening in the Mission San Jose District.

On January 23, 2020, at 6:18 p.m. an in-progress residential burglary was reported through 911.  The caller stated that a home had been burglarized in the 600 block of Monticello Terrace.  Monticello Terrace is in a gated community on a remote road that sits just north of Ohlone College.  Several patrol officers immediately responded.

Officers located a shattered rear door at the back of the home and several items of value were reported missing by the home owner. Officers conducted a thorough search of the area and adjacent hillside with the help of drones and two K9s.  The suspects likely parked in a remote area and then walked/hiked to the residence to commit the burglary.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation now being led by the Department’s General Crimes Unit.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to please contact the Fremont Police Department’s Investigative Unit at 510-790-6900. We'd like to thank East Bay Regional Parks Police for their assistance during this investigation.

Man With Pants Down Asks For Money

The men in Fremont just can't seem to keep their pants up!  At a McDonald's in Warm Springs this morning, a man with his pants down was approaching customers asking for money.  Maybe he needed money for a belt?  Officers were delayed in their response due to a higher priority call, but when they did respond, the man was still there with his pants down.  The subject was known to officers and I believe the dispatcher said he was on probation.

76 Station Robbed at Gun Point

A man with a black semi automatic handgun robbed the 76 gas station on Ardenwood around 9 o'clock this evening.  He was last seen heading west from the station on foot with cash from the till.  A few minutes later a large fight broke out at the Jack in the Box next door.  The fight seems unrelated to the robbery.  Four to five people were fighting each other in "mutual combat".

Police Activity at Suju's on Thornton

A man with a pair of scissors was threatening customers inside Suju's Coffee on Thornton around 7:15 this evening.  At one point he was in a "fighting stance".  Numerous officers rolled hot to the scene and surrounding area.  The man, reported to be high on drugs,  fled pushing a shopping cart towards Thornton.  A suspect was located a few minutes later by an officer at Carl's on Fremont.
Update:  A witness at Suju's has made positive ID on the suspect that the officer stopped at Carl's.

Failure of the Criminal Justice System

The 49 year old man below, a Union City resident, clearly needs some help.   He was arrested yesterday in Union City for indecent exposure and annoying/molesting a child with a prior conviction.  This was his fourth (4th) arrest for annoy/molest child with prior conviction within nearly six months.  This is a list of arrests only and not convictions, but clearly something is wrong with this man and he should be kept off the streets.

U.C. Teen Arrested For Oakland Murder (Updated)

According to online arrest and court documents, an 18 year old Union City man was arrested in Oakland by OPD last Thursday afternoon for homicide as well as many other felonies.  He was booked into Santa Rita early on Friday.  This arrest appears to be related to a homicide that occurred in Oakland.  As you may recall, another Union City teen was arrested for homicide in U.C. early last week in what appears to be an unrelated matter.  Perhaps UCPD will comment on this arrest soon.

Grand Theft at the T-Mobile at Bay Fair Mall

According to the police broadcast, two men wearing masks and hoodies stole from the T-Mobile at the Bay Fair Mall in San Leandro this afternoon.  No mention of weapons.  They left in a Honda Pilot with a possible female driver.  The loss is $4K in iPhones....which would be about 4 (if my math is correct).   Good chance they will be here in Fremont before the week is out...

Berkeley Police Chase Kills Innocent Pedestrian

In this case, according to the Chronicle, the UC Berkeley officer believed a woman in the vehicle was in danger, hearing her screaming for help.  It is unfortunate that an innocent party was struck and killed by the fleeing vehicle.  But to have this same result when chasing a vehicle for a minor vehicle equipment infraction, petty theft or other minor property crimes, is unjustified, in my humble opinion.

Sideshow Video from U.C. Last Sunday

Someone posted a nice eight minute video of the sideshow at Mission and Whipple last week, complete with the burning Christmas tree (near the end).  During this event UCPD officers were gathering a few blocks away and eventually rolled in to disperse the mob.  FPD rolled code 3 north on Mission to assist.

Attempted Murder Suspect Held Without Bail

The 19 year old Union City man arrested Wednesday morning in Union City is being held at Santa Rita jail without bail.  He has been charged with ten felonies and is scheduled back in court on January 31st for a plea hearing.    In addition to attempted murder, he is also charged with shooting at an occupied house or car and assault with a semi-automatic firearm.  While he was arrested for first degree murder, charges brought to court were apparently reduced to attempted murder.   UCPD has not commented on this arrest, but it is possible that he was one of two shooters in the wee hours last November that killed two boys sitting inside a van.  Perhaps the evidence is sketchy as to which firearm killed who.
