FREMONT OFFICER SHOOTS TWO THEFT SUSPECTS IN UNION CITY

Fremont officers chased grand theft suspects up 880 into Union City around 6:55 this evening.  The vehicle, with 3 suspects, turned into Balmoral Street, a dead end street.  Shots were fired by a police officer and struck two occupants of the vehicle.  UCPD was also on scene, but it is believed an FPD officer fired the rounds.  More to follow....
The theft occurred at Sephora Cosmetics and Beauty Supply on Christy St in Pacific Commons.  The report was three males with large bags sweeping items off the shelf.  An officer on scene described the suspect vehicle as a black SUV with no plates and was heading down Auto Mall towards 880.  A Fremont officer was waiting on 880 at Stevenson in case the vehicle fled north towards Oakland.
According to radio traffic from the ambulance to a trauma center, one person shot is a 30 year old male with a gun shot wound to the top of the head and also may have injuries from the traffic collision.  His respiratory rate was low but paramedics issued Norcan to bring the rate up.  The other gun shot wound suspect, the driver, was shot in the chest.  They were transported to different hospitals.
Note:  Excellent work by the veteran dispatcher.
Note:  Balmoral Street is located east of 880 off of Alvarado-Niles Blvd.
Note:  Pursuit lasted 7 minutes.
Note:  Two suspects shot and transported to separate hospitals.  No apparent injuries to the officers.
Note:  The shots were fired almost immediately after the vehicles came to a stop.  UCPD confirms only one FPD officer fired shots.
Note:  Unit that started the pursuit:  3O9 with 3O3 close behind.  2O7 joined in on 880 at Alvarado.

This from FPD Twitter seems to confirm that the shots were fired by FPD officers:

Fremont Patrol Officers were involved in an officer involved shooting in Union City around 7:00 pm this evening on Balmoral Street following a pursuit. This will be investigated by @UnionCityPD_CA.
