Officers Not Being Dispatched To School Alarms

As you may know, many years ago the city of Fremont changed their alarm response policy.  The new policy stated that only verified alarms would dictate a police response.  That is, there needed to be live video showing someone in the building (or audio) or a witness observing someone going through a window, entering a yard, etc.  While both FPD and FUSD acknowledge a huge increase in burglaries and vandalism to Fremont schools, their alarm response policy has not been adjusted.  Monitoring the dispatcher in recent weeks, school district alarms continue to be dispatched as information to officers, and not an assignment to respond.  On occasion officers will respond on their own as they did a few weeks ago at Warwick Elementary.   FPD appears to be still operating on a 12 hour "tactical" schedule, thus allowing for  plenty of officers to be available to respond to alarm calls.

  1. So if FPD doesn't respond to alarms----why do I have to pay a yearly fee to FPD to have a home alarm system? Another way to stick it to the public?

  2. It’s sad. The schools are open targets in most of the districts including the one I work for.

  3. I have to agree with the person who posted anonymously. Why are we playing money for a permit to the city? Is that just so we don't get fined for a noise complaint if the alarm goes off and we have an audible external sounding device? I knew about their policies, but, never thought much about it. Now that it's been brought up again, I think I'm very angry. Sounds like BS to me!

  4. Majority of alarm calls are false alarms. Officers needs to stay available for priority calls.

  5. Prior to school closings on March 16th, I would agree with the above comment. But both FUSD and FPD acknowledge an increase in crime at schools. This should be a priority.
