Wild Pursuit of Penske Box Truck Thru East Bay

This all started at Lucky's in the Mission Valley Shopping Center.  A man whose house was burglarized yesterday believed the suspect vehicle, a Penske box truck, was behind the Luckys store on Mission Blvd.  There was a stolen 20 foot Penske truck taken from Union City yesterday morning according to officers and the dispatcher.  That stolen truck had an Indiana license plate on it.  The caller to the police was able to confirm that the vehicle behind Luckys had an Indiana plate on it.  Numerous officers, including unmarked detectives and the K-9 officer, responded to the area.  There also was a man in a truck in the main parking lot talking on a phone, perhaps to the suspect walking around the Penske truck.  As officers moved in, the Penske driver took off from behind the store.  When the red and blue lights came on, the suspect fled south on Mission Blvd.  From there it was to Washington,  then north on Fremont into Union City, north on Hesperian through Hayward and San Lorenzo.  The truck then made a right on Bancroft going into San Leandro.  At Estudillo it collided with a vehicle at 9:20 p.m. and then stopped.  The driver fled on foot but was apprehended by the canine.  An ambulance was called to treat the dog bite.  No other suspects were outstanding.  Officers did detain the man in the truck who was on the phone, but his status is unknown.  The innocent driver struck by the truck apparently did not suffer serious injuries.   The pursuit lasted for 24 minutes.

Time of dispatch:  8:46
Start of pursuit:     8:56
Pursuit ended:       9:20

  1. They drove through four different police jurisdictions: UCPD, HPD, ACSO and SLPD. Fortunately because of the health edict there was light traffic, plus the box truck was a big target to see bearing down on you, so only one accident occurred.

  2. That would be scary to see in your rear view mirror.
