Maybe it's the luck of the Irish, but School Resource Officer Mike Gilfoy, 6J4, managed to chase down a stolen vehicle this afternoon without taking out any school kids, pedestrians, bicyclists or anyone else that might be out and about on this warm late summer afternoon. This is the second pursuit in recent days by Fremont officers at a time when school kids may be out on the sidewalks and crosswalks. The event last week ended when the suspect vehicle escaped driving north in the southbound lanes of 880.
Today's event, like last week's, started with an LPR hit on a stolen white 2015 VW Passat driving north on Fremont Blvd at about 2:30 p.m.. Officer Gilfoy, the SRO at Washington High, picked it up on Eggers by the high school. From there it was on to Camden, Paseo Padre, west on Mowry at 75 mph, through the Sprouts lot, where apparently it did not strike anyone or anything. From there it was north on Fremont towards Washington High and Centerville Jr. High, but the vehicle became stuck in traffic on Fremont near Mowry. Officers apparently then approached the vehicle with guns drawn and took the suspect into custody. Officer Gilfoy did run a subject check on a 16 year old boy from Milpitas, who had no driver's license based on the info given to the officer. It is unknown if he was the driver, a passenger or someone else.
That’s crazy. Last night was a pursuit on to 880 S & they terminated it because he was driving too fast. 🙄. Seriously? You terminate a pursuit on the open highway but continue it through city streets during the day & as schools are letting out? Come on FPD. Think
