Wild Goose Chase
Officers spent many minutes trying to locate an expensive piece of stolen equipment in north Fremont this afternoon, all for naught. The expensive GPS equipped instrument was taken from San Jose yesterday and was showing a "ping" near the North Gate Park. An employee of the victim company thought he had located the suspect vehicle in a retail parking lot. Officers arrived just after it left, but located a similar vehicle a short time later. The employee then said that there were two vehicles of similar description, but said the suspect vehicle had a broken side window. Officers later located a vehicle with the license plate given by the employee parked in an apartment garage. There appeared to be no equipment inside, nor no broken windows on the vehicle per a detective. Further questioning of the employee revealed that the last ping was an hour ago! So it seems they got a ping at this retail parking lot, an employee shows up some time later and sees a vehicle where the last ping came from. Unfortunately several vehicles could have come and gone in that parking stall prior to the employee's arrival, it seems. So, a better interview of the victim employee may have saved officers a lot of time. Officers are still in the area at this time.
