Arson on Mowry at Peralta
An arson investigator was on scene of a fire on Mowry and Peralta this morning and was requesting FPD for crime scene photos. A reader of this blog observed public safety vehicles in the parking lot of the Lutheran Church at that location. Pulse Point was down this morning, so details are limited at this time.
CHP Pursuit Into Fremont
A Dublin Area CHP unit pursued a UCPD stolen blue Honda Civic from Pleasanton into Fremont via Niles Canyon around midnight this morning. Hayward Area CHP officers assisted and placed a spike strip on Mission Blvd south of Las Palmas which the suspect vehicle drove over, slowing it down. The Honda then turned right on Ondina Drive before coming to a stop. At least one of the five occupants tried to flee but was quickly captured by CHP officers. Fremont Police officers, including a K-9 unit, assisted, but this was mostly a CHP operation. The car was stolen out of U.C. with the suspect being the 17 year old step daughter of the owner. In all, the five occupants of the vehicle were detained but it is unknown if all were arrested.

Police Activity Tonight at Washington High
You may have noticed police activity and/or scanner traffic regarding a theft and/or a gun at WHS. Here is a letter from the school principal explaining the circumstances of the event:
Washington Community,
Tonight after practice, football players returned to their lockers to find items missing. In an effort to locate missing items, several players approached a car in the student parking lot. A passenger in the car told the players to get away from the car and informed the players that there was a gun in the trunk of the car. The car left, the football players returned to the locker room and the police were called.
While the police were taking reports from football players they received a call about a possible suspect with a gun in or around the Washington gym area. Police searched the area and this turned out to be an unwarranted report generated by false social media posts.
The situation is resolved and students and staff are safe to attend school tomorrow.

Assault at the Carrington Apartments
Around 6:10 this evening a person was assaulted with a baseball bat at the Carrington Apartments on Mowry near Blacow. Numerous officers rolled into the scene code 3 as reports were coming in that the suspect was chasing the victim down Blacow on foot. The suspect was then reported to be over near Starbucks by Luckys. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and located a suspect, holding him at gunpoint. An ambulance was called for the victim. Sounds like the suspect or suspects face assault with a deadly weapon charge (245PC).
The Stabbings That Weren't
It is the weirdest thing. You hear a violent crime on the scanner. You know its real. At least four people go to the hospital with stab wounds. Crime scene tape across a neighborhood street. Ambulances everywhere. Cops everywhere. But the local police department doesn't mention it. Nothing about it in the media. In fact it is not listed on Crime Reports. It is possible that all participants are juveniles so therefore some info (names, etc) are kept secret. Why is it so difficult for Fremont Police to simply send out a Nixle message "We are investigating a stabbing in the Irvington District that occurred last last night". ?? Very bizarre. Here is a link to a post on this violent neighborhood event where victims were found near Steven Millard Elementary School two weeks ago:

Two Injury Accidents on Fremont Blvd.
Around 5:30 this evening an injury accident occurred on Fremont Blvd south of Auto Mall. Five minutes later two cars collided on Fremont near Sundale. Fremont Fire paramedics and an ambulance were dispatched to both scenes.
Robbery at Wally Mart
A person had their handbag taken and were punched in the head by a male who then fled in a vehicle. This occurred at the Albrae WalMart moments ago. Officers are en route. A good description of the vehicle including the plate were given.
Flashback- Navy T33 Crash Near Mission High School
Almost 55 years ago a Navy T33 training jet crashed in the area of Mission High, Hopkins and Chadbourne Schools. There is a plaque near by dedicating a playground to the Commander. Here are a few photos:

Herny T. Stanley of the United States Navy was such a man. Rather than abandon his crippled jet and allow it to crash in to a crowed residential area in Fremont, Commander Stanley rode his plane down to the treetops in guiding it into a narrow strip of open field. His thoughtfulness for those below cost him his life, because he was much to low for his parachute to open when he finally ejected. Commander Stanley knowingly sacrificed his life, because he knew when his altitude fell below a certain point that his parachute would be useless. And it should be noted here that rather than further endanger the life of his partner, he ordered him to bail out at a safe altitude after attempts to restart the jet's engine had failed. " Commander Stanley ordered me out at 3,500 feet," his partner said. "He stayed with the plane because he wanted to make sure no one would get hurt." The veteran naval pilot could have ejected himself from the falling jet and trusted to luck that the plane would not kill or injure anyone when it crashed - but he would not make such a decision based only on luck. He had to make sure. His action testifies to the fact that Cmdr. Henry T Stanley was a special kind of man. He leaves his wife and three children. They can be everlastingly proud of him."
He was attached to the U.S.S. Midway, which was home ported in Alameda, at the time of his death. Lt. Cmdr. Harford Fields, Mobile, Ala., parachuted to safety earlier at Stanley's command. The City Counsel of Fremont resolution points out that Commander Stanley "unhesitatingly altered his course toward the foothills and then with no thought for himself stayed with his airplane to guide it, thus preventing the catastrophe of it falling into the homes and schools." Stanley ejected, but his parachute never opened. His body was found three-quarters of mile away from the crash scene still strapped to the ejection seat which should have separated automatically. It is estimated that he ejected at 2,000 feet. The jet's canopy was found on a rooftop half a mile for the crash scene. The plane skimmed over rooftops, and narrowly missed Mission San Jose High School, two blocks from the crash scene.
Cmdr. Stanley did eject from the the T-33 jet trainer at the last moment, but the seat failed to detach automatically from the strapped-in pilot and allow his parachute to open. The Navy board investigating the crash was told the particular type of ejection seat in Stanley's plane was consider outmoded and would have been replaced with newer version that greatly increases the chance of survival if funds had been available. Over a year after Stanley's death the Navy got $1 million in funds to remove and modernize the ejection seats in the 167 T-33s.
"Dedicated September 11, 1965 to the heroism of Commander Henry T. Stanley who, on January 11, 1965 sacrificed his life near this playground so that others might live." This inscription appears on a plaque near Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, CA. During the the playground dedication Vice Admiral Paul D. Stroop presented Mrs. Mary Henry T. Stanley with the Distinguished Flying Cross posthumously awarded to Commander Henry T. Stanley, Jr., United States Navy.
In the 1997 Cmdr. Henry T Stanley Jr.'s second son William J. Stanley, who was ten years old when his father died, visited the playground and found the plaque barely attached to the stone, over grown with weeds and had some vandalism done to it. He contacted the the City of Fremont's Judy Felber, supervising park manager. The unrepairable plaque was re-cast. The plaque was then placed so as you read the plaque you could look across the fields to Mission San Jose High School, and Chadbourne Elementary and Hopkins Junior High to appreciate the innocent lives saved by Stanley giving his life. Stanley eldest son Cmdr. Henry T. Stanley III, (who was also a pilot in the Navy, is now a pilot for American Airlines), and daughter Barbara Stanley took their mother Mary Ann to see her husband's refurbished park and plaque. Mary Ann and Henry Jr. met in the Navy. Mary Ann was a nurse in the Navy. She died in May 2010. She never remarried. Lolagirl1 (talk) 00:03, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Power Pole on Fire on Anderson
Fremont Fire on scene on a power pole fire on Anderson in the Driscoll-Washington area. There was an earlier fire in an apartment complex on Blacow near Fremont that has now been put out.
Tree Falls on House on Washburn
A large tree has fallen on a house on Washburn in the Niles District around 1 this afternoon. The crash apparently caused a natural gas leak. FFD is enroute.
Scanning Fremont, Newark & UCPD
Because of the wind event today I have set the online scanner feed to include Newark PD and UCPD. If a major police or fire event occurs, I will lock the scanner on that talk group (channel).
Tree Down into Apartment Complex on High Street
Officers are on the way to see if anyone is hurt as a tree has fallen onto an apartment complex on High. FFD also being dispatched. An officer has now arrived and reporting no injuries at the unit struck.

Signals out at Mission and Niles; Wind Event Today
The traffic lights went out at Niles and Mission Blvd just before 8 this morning. Officers placed portable stop signs at the intersection. In the past PGE has cut power to the Niles Canyon area during wind events, and according to their map, that is the case today. The wind is forecasted to exceed 20 MPH on the streets of Fremont from around 11 a.m. until sunset today, with humidity of less than 20 %. I'll do my best to report wind/fire events in the area today.
Update 8:48 a.m. In U.C. two trees reported down in two different locations.
8:58 a.m. In Hayward, officers are asking for portable stop signs at various intersections where the power is apparently out. An officer is reporting a large tree down..20 foot by 10 foot! The dispatcher verified the size...I think he might have meant 10 inches wide.
9:00 - wind observations at both Napa Airport and Travis AFB show wind gusts in excess of 50 mph!
10:02- tree down on Sleepy Hollow in Hayward. Hayward Airport reporting wind from the north at 30 knots gusting to 40!
11:35- wires down on Mission near Guardwara, north of Nursery. Also Newark PD reporting trees down on Sycamore.
11:45 - UCPD reporting that most of Union Landing businesses have their own power. Sounds like PGE might be out in the area.
1:00 - Power outage on Grimmer north of Auto Mall. Portable stop signs will be set out.
1:10 - A tree has fallen on the hood of a Toyota Camry but the driver, who was in the car, was not injured.

Earlier today a male stole a purse out of a shopping cart at Safeway (Hub). The suspect fled in a car with no plates. A sergeant spotted the vehicle as it traveled west on Mowry. A felony stop was initiated and a juvenile suspect was positively ID’d. The purse was in the car.
This happened to be the same sergeant who spotted the bank robbery suspect’s vehicle just a couple days ago (also on Mowry Ave). Nice job day shift!

Ugly Commute; 2 Lanes of 680 Blocked
A grass fire on the shoulder of northbound 680 near 84 in Sunol has caused the right two lanes to close, probably due to parked fire vehicles and smoke. At the present time, traffic from Auto Mall north is averaging less than 10 mph. Niles Canyon is about the same. There is a report that Mission Blvd near Stevenson is at a crawl like its a Friday night.
Update at 4:30- numerous vehicles are using Morrison Canyon Road to bypass the traffic mess.

Theft at Ross; Suspects Stopped
Less than 24 hours after Provident Credit Union at The Hub was robbed, two women apparently stole $300 worth of merchandise from Ross. A good description of the suspect vehicle, including a license plate, was given to police dispatchers. Another alert officer located the vehicle on Argonaut and put a stop on it. Two women were detained.

Emergency Water Repairs Tomorrow
Tweet from ACWD:
Emergency repairs in Fremont to affect water service, Tuesday, October 22, 2019, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After
repairs are made, customers are encouraged to flush the water in your
house as repairs may temporarily cause discolored water. The water will
be safe to drink and a few minutes of flushing may help with
discoloration. To flush the line, turn on your front hose bib – the
outdoor faucet at the front of the house – until the water runs clear.
Also run cold water from the faucets inside your home for 1-3 minutes
until clear.
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we make this important repair. Customers may also call the District's Operations Department at (510) 668-6500 for more information.
Thank you.
List of affected streets. Thanks anonymous...I missed this link. Generally this is a small neighborhood east of Mission near Castro.

ROBBERY AT THE HUB; SUSPECTS ARRESTED
The Provident Credit Union at The Hub was robbed at 5:30 this evening. The two suspects displayed no weapons and left in a stolen gray 96 Honda sedan. An alert officer observed a similar vehicle with paper plates and two males matching the description in the rear of the vehicle on Mowry Avenue. The officer followed the vehicle onto northbound 880. At some point a pursuit was initiated with speeds up to 60-70 MPH for a short period of time near Alavardo-Niles Blvd. The suspect vehicle also pulled over to the shoulder of 880, reversed course and rammed an FPD patrol car before turning around and heading north. Shortly thereafter it apparently crashed. At least two people fled on foot and were scooped up in short order. Two ambulances were ordered, but I don't know if they were for the suspects or for someone possibly injured in the crash.

I would like to add that the dispatcher did an EXCELLENT job in getting the information out!
"BEEEEEEP 211 at the old Taco Bell at The Hub, now Provident Credit Union, 39080 Fremont Blvd". Within seconds all the important info is out. They can sort out who is primary for the call later...get units rolling there now.

Fremont PD almost had me scooped on this...two quick tweets. They are getting the hang of pushing out important crime info in a timely manner!

Bogus Gun Calls?
This may just be a coincidence, or I may be totally wrong, but it seems that someone is calling in bogus "man with a gun" calls. Yesterday afternoon there was a report of a man that had pointed a handgun at a transient in the shopping center at Blacow and Grimmer. A detailed description of the suspect and woman with him were given as well as their location. Officers arrived and detained the two subjects, but to the best of my knowledge, neither the victim or reporting party could be located. I don't believe a gun was found as I don't recall one being run for wants.
Last night a man called in a disturbance near the Honda dealership down at Pacific Commons. About 6 men were in a loud argument around the corner from the dealership and one subject had a handgun. He did not brandish it in a threatening way, the man indicated, but merely was holding it in his hand. Officers formed up and rolled in making felony stops on all subjects, having them prone out in the street and later cuffed. I don't think a gun was found here as well. The reporting party said he was a Honda employee and gave his name and cell phone number which seemed to match, but could not be located. But the manager at Honda said those that were detained are his employees and the name given by the caller is not an employee.
Of course this is a dangerous situation for officers to roll in on and I hope my analysis is wrong.

I hope they keep it up. 3 posts on current police work today. Here are the latest two:
Residential burglaries and DUI arrests kept midnight officers busy.
2 res burg reports taken - Bradley St and Calaveras Ave.
An ambulance crew witnessed a DUI collision - 22 y/o woman was arrested. A 45 y/o man fell asleep behind the wheel and was also arrested for DUI.
Fremont Police Department @FremontPD
Warrant Arrest - Day shift officers contacted a 35 year old man today after a caller reported he was exposing himself to customers at Safeway (Hub). The man (Hayward transient/290 registrant) had a $5k registrant compliance failure warrant and was transported to Santa Rita Jail.
Police Activity at Round Table Pizza
Officers have a man detained in front of Round Table Pizza on Fremont Blvd. in the Irvington District. The man was spotted earlier in a backyard on Carol and then fled on a bicycle. A neighbor was able to provide a good description of the man. While officers were checking the outside of the house to see if entry was made (there wasn't) other officers were checking the area for the man. An alert officer located the man on Fremont Blvd and the man fled from the officer. After a short chase he was brought down in front of the pizza parlor. An ambulance was called, apparently for the suspect for injuries sustained during his arrest.
FPD ARRESTS MAN IN NILES DEATH
Here is their Nixle post released minutes ago:
In September, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against 36 year-old Matthew Jardine, behind his involvement in the death of victim Thaddeus Steiner, a 40 year old Fremont resident. Jardine was charged with PC 192 (b) - Involuntary Manslaughter.
As a department, we are always careful not to speculate and try to only share factual information. In many instances, cases are quick to investigate and conclude, but that was not the case with this incident. Since the incident occurred, detectives have kept the Alameda County District Attorney apprised of the case and had to ultimately wait for the Alameda County Coroner’s autopsy report to be finalized before concluding the criminal investigation. In September, the final report was provided to the District Attorney for review and charges were filed against Jardine. These are the facts of the case available at this time:
On Sunday, May 19, 2019, at approximately 8:00 p.m. Fremont Fire responded to a man down medical call in the vicinity of the Florence Bar on Niles Blvd. The man, identified as victim Thaddeus Steiner, was suffering from a head injury and was transported to a trauma center. It wasn’t evident at the time, nor was information provided from witnesses, regarding the potential cause of Steiner’s injury.
Early the following morning, the Fremont Police Department was notified that Steiner was suffering from a life threatening injury and may not survive. Further, a witness who had been inside the Florence bar at the time of the incident came forward with information regarding the events leading up to the injury. The witness informed detectives that just prior to being found suffering from an injury Steiner had walked outside of the bar with Matthew Jardine. Crimes Against Persons Detectives and CSI’s responded to the area where Steiner was found. Detectives obtained video surveillance from multiple businesses in the surrounding area and spoke to several potential witnesses.
Based on the totality of the investigation it is believed that Steiner and Jardine first came into contact with each other on Friday, May 17th at the Florence Bar. At that time, Steiner is believed to have been in possession of a firearm. The two became involved in a verbal dispute outside the bar however no physical altercation took place at that time. Two days later, Sunday, May 19th, Steiner returned to the Florence. Jardine confronted Steiner and asked to speak with him in the courtyard adjacent to the bar. In that courtyard, a physical altercation between the two occurred. During the fight, Steiner was struck in the head by Jardine’s fist. As a result of the fight, Steiner lost consciousness and was believed to have passed out. Jardine returned to the bar and told one of Steiner’s friends where to find Jardine and relayed that he “put him [Steiner] to sleep.” This specific i nformation was not provided to paramedics and fire personnel who responded for medical aid. At the hospital, it was learned that the injury was much more serious and Steiner succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized for several days.
On May 23rd, Jardine and his attorney spoke with detectives regarding his involvement in the incident. Jardine was found to have multiple cuts in the knuckle area of his right hand and his middle finger appeared to be swollen and bruised in color (injuries consistent with the altercation he described). Following the statement, Jardine left the police department with his attorney.
The Coroner’s report indicated Steiner had a fracture to the back of his skull and a subdermal hematoma which caused swelling/pressure to be put on the brain stem. The Coroner stated the cause of death was due to blunt force injuries to the head.
After charges were filed, Jardine turned himself into custody. He was later released on his own recognizance. Jardine has remained out of custody and his next court date is scheduled for November 14, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in department 702 of the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin, CA.

Gun Call on Blacow
There is a report of a man that pointed a handgun at a transient in the shopping center at Blacow & Grimmer. Officers are on scene now and have a suspect detained.
Update: Sounds like the victim and reporting party cannot be located. Unknown if a handgun was located- I did not hear any weapons being run.

Another Ambulance Meltdown
A Falck Ambulance crew requested a second ambulance for a call they were on in southern Alameda County around noon today. The fire dispatcher said they had none available. A few minutes later a call was broadcast to all other ambulance companies in Alameda County for help. They were experiencing a high volume of calls for service in the southern part of Alameda County and requested assistance from BLS (basic life support) ambulances. A few did offer assistance. This Falck Ambulance contract the county has signed off on is not looking very good today.
The Forgotten Homicide
My new readers may not be aware of the homicide that occurred outside of The Florence in Niles on Sunday night, May 19th. Fremont Police has yet to issue a Nixle message on this and therefore the news media has not becoming aware of it. If you google "homicide in Fremont", you will not see any link about it, except perhaps to my blog. Below is a clip from the FPD Patrol Blotter back in May. No other communication to the public has been made, to my knowledge. Below that find links to my previous posts on this event.

Incidents 292 Reports 35
#007 Suspicious Death Investigation
At 8:05 a.m. officers responded to the 37300 block of Niles Blvd to investigate a battery that occurred the night before. On Sunday evening, the night prior, Fremont Fire responded to the patio area of a coffee shop on Niles Blvd., where they provided medical treatment to an unresponsive male. The man was transported to a trauma center. At the time of the call, it was only reported as medical in nature and there was no further information regarding the man’s injuries. The following morning, the department was notified that the man’s condition was grave and he was suffering from major injuries. Additional information was learned that the man may have been inolved in a fight. Since that time, officers and detectives have been working the case trying to determine what occurred. As of Wednesday, the man remained hospital, but had been declared deceased by doctors. This remains a very active investigation.

Listening to Fremont Fire
Many of you may not know, but the Fremont Fire Department is dispatched by the Alameda County Fire Department's dispatch center in Livermore. You can listen to them online by selecting "Alameda County Fire" https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/11878
On this talk group (or channel) being broadcast is also fire traffic for Alameda County Fire Department (includes Newark and U.C.) and Alameda City Fire Department. You may hear a lot of radio traffic that is not of interest to you. In radio terms we say "high noise to signal".
Some history. Back in the 60s Fremont Fire was on the same frequency as most other fire agencies in southern Alameda County, 154.07. Someone with a tunable VHF receiver or crystal controlled monitor could listen in and hear most of the East Bay as well. I believe FFD's call sign was KDA429. Other fire departments on that channel were : San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland and Hayward. Alameda County Fire Dept. was not organized until the late 80s. Sometime in the 90s all communications went to a high tech system requiring an expensive trunk tracking scanner. Fremont Fire had their own talk group, or channel at that time. One could simply lock the scanner on FFD and only hear local fire traffic. It was a great thing. Then about 10 years ago or so, in order to save money, the city decided to contract dispatch services out to ACFD and that is where we stand today. Unfortunately FFD has to share the channel with numerous other departments. It is a busy talk group to listen to. If a major fire event is happening I will try and lock the live stream to that events tactical channel for all to listen to, but otherwise you will have to select the ACFD stream or listen in on Pulse Point, which has a radio option.

Photo of the Day
This took a little research to decode. Number 12 on the Seattle Seahawks was back up QB Sam Adkins back in the 70s. They retired his number so the fans could be #12 like Texas A&M, if I understand that. No other player wore #12 for Seattle. So..this vehicle may be the son/daughter of #12 as Mr. Adkins is now in his 60s. This was spotted on Grimmer.

Police Activity at The Hub
Numerous officers are off at The Hub chasing down stolen vehicle suspects. They now have two in custody and one female outstanding. This event started around 6:50 when a citizen called in a suspicious vehicle backed into a parking stall in front of CVS. The license plate given indicated a stolen vehicle. Unmarked units got an eye on the vehicle while six patrol cars stood on a perimeter. As officers approached, the three ran. One ran south and two ran through Hawaiian BBQ and then into the breezeway.
False Alarm on Norris
A homeowner called in from Costco...she was watching video of a woman entering the sliding door of her home. No one should be home. Officers expedited to the Glenmoor neighborhood. An unmarked unit was first one scene and reported landscapers in the yard. But why would they be in the house? Well, they weren't. Turns out the homeowner was watching old video of herself entering the house via the sliding door. Oops.
Irvington Stabbing Update
The detectives have silenced the FPD PIO regarding this event. It could be months before any information is released. Remember the homicide in Niles FIVE months ago? We are still waiting for FPD to release any information. Playing back the radio traffic from Monday's stabbings, here is what we know:
10:16 Officers dispatched to Fiesta for a stabbing victim holding his right leg and asking for help.
10:18 First officer arrives on scene and locates the first victim. Shortly thereafter three more victims are located at the school.
10:23 Information is obtained that the suspects are in two cars containing four occupants each.
10:25 Sergeant requests Fiesta be blocked off as a crime scene with blood, a knife and handgun parts.
10:29 There is radio traffic stating that "at least" four victims will be transported to the hospital.

Baby Not Breathing Call
Earlier this evening on Hastings someone called 9-1-1 to report a baby not breathing. In addition to FFD paramedics, patrol officers were also dispatched as they could possibly arrive prior to the FD. Within four minutes of being dispatched and prior to FFD arrival, an officer did arrive. She reported that the baby was breathing and conscious. Perhaps the baby recovered on her own or from a family member, but it's good to know that a CPR trained professional will be there to help you within minutes.

What A Crazy Night!
The afternoon started out with an RV fire in the canyon that ended up closing down Niles Canyon Road and forcing commuters onto Mission and Morrison Canyon. Traffic was backed up for hours. Unfortunately a man had some minor injuries and his dog perished. Later in the evening an arsonist (or two) torched off an old Toyota pick up truck on Hastings. Numerous callers reported to FPD that the car was rolling down Hastings and "exploding". Officers obtained good video from nearby cameras showing two people circling the truck on foot before it exploded in flames. They then ran south towards Country.
Then some serious crime hit. Apparently four teens were stabbed in the vicinity of Valpey Park and Fiesta, near Millard Elementary, in the Irvington District. There were two teen suspects and officers have their names. At least 3 of the 4 were transported to hospitals. Officers followed the ambulances to the hospitals while others conducted interviews in the neighborhood, tying up patrol officers for many hours.
If this wasn't enough, a 4.5 quake struck about a half hour later that gave Fremont a pretty good shake. There were no reports of damages or injuries in this quake which was centered north of Walnut Creek. A nearly full moon may have contributed to the quake, and perhaps the other crazy activity last night.

4 Stabbed in Irvington!
Four people were stabbed near Valpey Park and Fiesta around 10:15 tonight. Numerous officers are on scene. Unknown extent of injuries.
Frustrated Commuters Using Morrison Canyon
Commuters are running over the pylons on Morrison Canyon Road and heading up to Vargas in order to access 680, saving a bunch of time. Fremont motor officers are aware of this and are on Vargas now to provide a little enforcement action.
RV on Fire in the Canyon; Mission Will Be A Mess
An RV has caught fire on Niles Canyon Road east of Palmores Road. The RV was fully engulfed and touched off a small grass fire near the RR tracks, but has since been contained. The roadway may be shut down due to emergency vehicles. There was some talk of a life flight helicopter for someone that may have been trapped in the RV. More on this if I hear more. CHP confirms that Niles Canyon Road is being shut down east of Palomares Road which will lead to a huge mess on Mission Blvd and some neighborhoods as commuters try to work around the closure. Fremont PD will probably close Niles Canyon at Old Canyon.
Update. Five fire engines on scene..apparently there is still some fire happening. Also, FPD is shutting down Niles Canyon AT Mission which makes sense since most people want to go all the way through. Again, Mission will be a mess.
Update: This is (or was) a 25 foot motor home. There is a victim that will be transported via ground ambulance. A motor officer reports that southbound Mission is backed up to Stevenson as those destined for the canyon are now heading to 680.
Fremont Police slow on the Nixle message (surprise, uh?). They were advised by CHP at 2:21 to shut down Niles Canyon. At 3:52 they managed to squeak out a Nixle message.
Update: at 4:24 Niles Canyon opened up to eastbound traffic.

Unruly Transient at Mowry and Paseo
Two calls on this guy. First from the ATT store saying the suspect told a customer "to go back to her country", then fled on foot towards Walgreens. And wouldn't you know, Walgreens calls and says they have a male there yelling at customers. Officers are on the way. Oh, and it's only Monday.

Man With A Stick Call
On Isherwood this evening, according to the victim, a homeowner struck a man walking by with a stick causing him to bleed. He is not requesting medical help. He will point out the house the homeowner went in to. According to the victim, the suspect has an issue with homeless people in the area. He described the stick as seven foot long with white tape on it. He also gestured towards his waist as if to have a gun, but none was scene. Officers are now arriving on scene.
The Dreaded 415 Family Call
This is one of the more common calls street officers respond to. And at times the most dangerous. On Ellsworth tonight a woman called in a panic, "I need the police here now. My husband is coming after me". Prior to officers arriving she was able to escape to a neighbor's residence. She said her husband had hit her in the head above the ear but that she did not need an ambulance. Officers are on scene now. Very sad but glad she was able to call for help.
Bar Stool Thrown at Mojo's
An apparent football disagreement had one patron throw a bar stool at another at Mojo's on Peralta about 15 minutes ago. Officers are on the way to sort things out, and perhaps, catch a little football on the screen.

Shower Call
A woman in Warm Springs comes home and hears the shower running. She thinks it is her husband and goes about her business. A few minutes later her husband walks in the front door. Now knowing that there is a stranger in the house, they both exit and call 9-1-1. As officers arrive and set up a perimeter, the owners, apparently looking at in house video, see a man walking down the stairs. Officers give commands and take one subject into custody. They then check inside the house and apparently find no one else.
Man Passed Out at Self Check Out
A known transient has passed out in the self check out lane at Raley's on Paseo. According to radio traffic, Raley's originally called in to report that the man was asked to leave and refused. Now he is passed out in the store. Probably drunk. Paramedics and officers are en route.
Update- listening in on the hospital channel...this is a 44 year old male with ETOH (alcohol), slurred words, vitals are stable. I believe the officer is writing a trespass citation for the man.
