UCPD Nixle Report on Shooting

A few comments before you read...unless more info has come out, this was a grand theft, not a robbery, but still a felony.  According to radio traffic,  no weapons were observed or force used to commit the crime.  Sounds like they did steal a large volume of goods from the store.  The pursuing officer picked up the vehicle on 880- he did not follow it from the store.  An officer at the store put out a broadcast of the description of the car and an officer on 880 located it.  The Nixle report does not mention any weapons located in the suspect vehicle or on the suspects.  To my knowledge there was no radio traffic regarding weapons.

  1. I wonder if this is the same team that ripped off Ulta?

  2. I'm wondering why the officer opened fire. Usually they are not allowed to shoot unless they are shot at first, right?

    1. Officers are allowed to fire their weapons at a suspect if they feel threatened. Charging an officer with a knife or pointing a firearm at the officer and the officer feels his life is threatened is cause enough to discharge his weapon as far as I know. In this case it appears that the suspects did not have weapons but the officer may have observed something pointed at him that looked like a weapon.
