Canales Was Not Wearing A Seat Belt

The Washington High student killed in a head-on crash on highway 17 over the weekend was not wearing a seat belt.  Armando Canales was a passenger in a vehicle struck head on by a drunk driver just after 2 a.m.  Four other people were in the car and two of those did not have belts on as well.  Only Canales was killed but three of the other four went to the hospital.  SR 17 is a dangerous highway in the best of times, but on a dark night with bars closing it is a lethal trap.  Had they postponed their trip until daylight and he had his seat belt on, he would be alive today.  Hopefully this is a teaching moment at WHS.  Wear your seatbelt.  Drive defensively.
