A homeowner up near the top of Morrison Canyon Road interrupted some burglars around 7:15 this morning and called police after chasing them down the driveway. Two fled and a third is possibly still in the residence. The two that fled had a small dog with them and left in a silver truck with a cover over the bed. Officers are searching the residence now for a possible third suspect. A drone has been called in to assist.
Update: A suspect may be on Vargas walking towards 680 per a resident in the area. Officers are enroute.
Update at 8:40: Several residents are calling in to report a suspicious person in the area on Vargas. A number of officers and the drone are working the area.
Update at 8:50: A report of the suspect now on 680 in the center median between Sheridan and Vargas, but road workers in the area have not seen him. Possibly a ruse.
UCPD has a canine unit rolling code 3 to Vargas to assist.
Update at 9:00 Officers have him at gun point near 680 Mission and the McDonalds in a creek bed. Now have him in custody. This is probably the 3rd suspect from the home burglary that was left behind by his buddies after the owner chased them down the driveway. Wouldn't surprise me if he gives them up to the detectives. He must be pissed.
I heard PD flying down Walnut this morning so I knew something was up so I turned on the scanner. I had missed the initial call but by radio traffic it sounded like a home invasion. Geez, they bad guys started early this morning. They sure didn’t expect a feisty woman to chase them out! Unfortunately her handgun has gone missing.
