Fremont officers chased a white Toyota Rav 4 with a male driver from south Fremont up 880, across the Dumbarton, up 101 to 380 at SFO, west on 380 to south 280 before FPD supervisors called it off. The 37 minute chase began on Greenwood off Fremont Blvd around 2:38 this afternoon after officers located a parked stolen vehicle. The days of of letting property crime suspects flee are apparently over. Undeterred by two recent pursuits that resulted in death or injury, Chief Petersen has apparently green lighted officers to pursue lower level felons. If not, then her command team is out of control. City attorneys must be on board as surely they were briefed on last week's pursuit that resulted in fatal injuries to the suspect and major injuries to an innocent driver. Days before that a pursued vehicle flipped over several times while traveling at 110 mph up 880. City attorneys must have been briefed on that as well. While it appears that today's suspect was only wanted for auto theft, patrol sergeants and the watch commander who were listening in closely and asking for updates, let the chase go even at high speeds on congested freeways. CHP entered the chase for a short time on 101 before pulling out for unknown reasons. Mounting community pressure to end the wave of auto burglaries city wide has apparently prompted the Chief to change tactics, even at the risk of injury or death to innocent citizens.
Damn that’s good. They need to let the criminals know Fremont is not open for the taking because FPD won’t do anything. Now hopefully they will take back our city.
ReplyDeleteIt was cool listening to it, with the tone, that’s how I knew something big was happening. I was surprised to hear them tell Fremont to return to the city.
Yes, the tone returned!
