Union Pacific Does it Again

As of this writing, the UPRR crossing on Walnut near Mission has been blocked for over twenty (20) minutes!  The head end of the train is waiting for a green signal at Niles Junction and the end of the train has not quite cleared the crossing, keeping the arms in the down position. With the construction of the huge apartment complex and the construction of the bike lanes, local residents have just about had it.  Now add UPRR to the equation....

Update:  At 2:55 p.m. the train began to move, clearing the crossing.  While listening in on the UPRR channel, the train was waiting for at least one and maybe two Amtrak trains to clear Niles Junction.  Dispatchers do not want a slow moving freight to proceed at fast passenger train.  Usually the freight will hold south of Stevenson until the junction is clear.  So, Fremont motorists were inconvenienced for at least 35 minutes this afternoon.

  1. That is crazy! If an emergency vehicle needed to go through and would not be able to.
