Suicidal Man Shuts Down 880 at Auto Mall
A man hanging over 880 from the north side of Auto Mall has been safety removed from the overpass and placed into a patrol car moments ago. What started out as a disturbance between a man and a woman at the Chick-fil-A on Auto Mall nearly ended in tragedy around 5 o’clock this afternoon. Dispatchers received reports of a man threatening to kill himself and a woman hitting him at the Chick-fil-A. When officers arrived on scene the man had walked over to 880 and was hanging or sitting in a dangerous position. CHP officers were called in to shut down southbound 880 in case the subject did jump or fall. Fremont fire department was also called in for their hook and ladder bucket truck for a possible rescue. Fremont police negotiators also responded code three. In the end the initial officers were able to talk the man back on to Auto Mall and into their car.
