Pursuit Down Fremont Blvd Leads to Injury Crash

If you are a follower of this blog, you knew it was only a matter of time before a Fremont Police pursuit ended with injuries.  Around 7:45 this evening Fremont officers chased a vehicle south on Fremont Blvd from Mowry and it crashed at Stevenson.  The female suspect was wanted for property crimes:  forgery, theft, burglary.   Prior to the crash, the suspect, driving a black 2002 Mercedes, blew through two red lights.  Two ambulances have been requested.  One party is complaining of chest pains.  One party may be trapped.  The suspect is in custody and is being transported to a hospital.    Fremont Fire responded two engines and a ladder truck to the scene.
The lead pursuit unit was 2-O-6.  The traffic on this Saturday night on Fremont Blvd was reported by the officer as "moderate", as you would expect.  But with the suspect blowing the red at Walnut and Bidwell, did the officer really think the suspect and following patrol vehicles would safely make it through the busy intersection ahead at Stevenson?  FPD command staff need to review their pursuit policy regarding the chasing of property crime suspects on city streets where the probability of an injury crash is high.
