Robbery at Walgreens

A strong arm robbery (threat of force- no weapons) occurred at the Walgreens on Decoto at Fremont around 7 this evening.  There was no loss in this crime.  Suspect vehicle a Mercedes last seen north of Fremont towards 880.

Police Patrol Blotter on Vacation; Seldom Works

Fremont Police public information officers continue to slack off, having published only one patrol blotter in April, which covered just 3 days.  This is down from 3 blotters in March covering 9 days.  They were busy with the OIS two weeks ago, but they should be able to produce a daily patrol blotter to  inform the community.  The public is anxious to know about crime trends, including calls for service regarding transients.  I don't think putting out a daily blotter is asking too much.

Battery in a Tesla

Yes, I know the Tesla has batteries.  But I thought my readers would get a charge out of reading about a battery (242 PC) that just occurred in a Tesla in Warm Springs.  A man and a young woman were reported to be in an active physical fight near the Wells Fargo Bank.  Two officers are on the way there in an attempt to defuse the situation.

Odd Theft From Wally Mart

Technically this was a robbery (211 PC), but a short slim man grabbed an employee and took her keys from her belt.  This occurred around 2:15 this afternoon at the Walmart on Osgood.  The man fled in a tan Kia SUV west on Auto Mall.

This was taken a few years back by ALCO Fire (I think).  Here is a bored CHP officer working the hose on a grass fire on 880 near 238.  Talk about "guns and hoses"....

Serious Accident at Pacific Commons

Two ambulances have been called for a serious accident in Pacific Commons near The Habit.  An officer advised that one patient is unconscious and may be a "trauma activation".

Women Steal Thousands of Dollars in Perfume From Ulta

It has been awhile since I have heard a theft from an Ulta come over the scanner, but one just occurred at Pacific Commons.  The initial report is that thousands of dollars in fragrance were taken by 4 women and they left in a Honda Accord.  No officers are available to take the report at this time, it appears.

Transient Calls

Here are just two that I was able to catch recently...main library on Stevenson there was a complaint of two transients laying on the sidewalk and telling people to walk around them.  Then over at Party City at The Hub, an older transient with a pipe in his shopping cart was refusing to leave and was possibly on drugs or drunk.

Police Activity on Farwell near Mowry

Police officers are at an apartment complex on Farwell off of Mowry this afternoon sorting out a strange call.  Apparently a man knocked on a door in the area asking for help.  His hands were tied behind his back and he had a bloody nose.  Then five men grabbed him and took him into an apartment.  Numerous officers arrived and were able to get everyone out of the apartment, including the victim.  About twenty minutes later there was a call for an ambulance, apparently for the man with the bloody nose.  As of this writing it appears officers are still sorting out the details of this call.
Side note:  At one point the subject told someone that he was "new to America".  And one of the reporting parties said the had his AR-15 outside but was told by dispatch to take it inside when officers arrive.  So, Welcome to America, bro, where we have more guns per capita than any other country (and possibly more mentally ill as well).

Boisterous Bruce

The cops know his name.  The store employees know his name.  He has been a trouble maker at the 76 on Ardenwood and surrounding business for weeks.  He is on probation for trespassing.  Last night around 11:15 an employee called to say he was yelling at customers, threatening suicide, screaming.  Officers were sent there to deal with him again.  An ambulance was called and he was place on a 5150 hold.  He will most likely be released back onto the streets in the days ahead and the cycle will continue.

Mayor Mei Mum on Shooting, Mental Illness

Maybe I missed it.  But I haven't read on social media or the print media any comments from our Mayor (or city council members) about a mentally ill man shooting at a Fremont cop.  You would think that this would be of interest to city leaders.  Next time the victim may not be a passing officer in his car but a doctor, or nurse, or someone out for a walk, or god forbid a child or children.  We know the streets of Fremont are occupied by mentally ill people.  You can see them walking with that dazed look.  You can hear them yelling obscenities to no one in particular.  You can see them waving sticks and yelling threats.  Sometimes they are naked.  Sometimes they will urinate or defecate on your property.  Sometimes they use alcohol or drugs or sometimes its just their condition that they have no control over.  On the night of April 18th we learned what a mentally ill man with a gun can do. But The City doesn't seem to know how to deal with the issue.  Officers typically tell them to "move along".  Some are booked on a 5150 72 hr eval only to be released back into the public square.  This is a nationwide issue, but the solution will be on the streets.  Something needs to be done before tragedy hits home.

Woman Poops in Patrol Car

Two officers were talking car-car about a theft at Pacific Commons.  At the end of the conversation, one says to the other "oh by the way she pooped in your car".  "You're kidding, right?"  " I wish I was.  I heard her banging on the window and I went over there to see what she wanted and I said "Can I help you with something?  And she says 'I shit my pants'".  Then the officer asks dispatch to call Crime Scene Cleaners, "our 10-15 left us a gift".  All in a days work....

Police Activity at the Casa Verde Apartments

A concerned citizen reported a man acting strangely in the parking lot of the Casa Verde Apartments on Eggers around 4 this afternoon.  He had a stick and looked like he was high on drugs.  The first officer arrived a few minutes later, observed the man, and called for his cover unit to step it up to code 3.  Other officers were rolling as well.  The man was agitated.  He kept reaching into his pocket.  He would not listen to commands.  This could have gone south in a hurry, but apparently the officer kept his cool, waited for backup and with that officer's help they were able to detain the subject.  Paramedics were called in to treat the man for a medical issue- perhaps he got scraped up while being forced into compliance.

Grand Theft at The Hub

Just before noon today two men dressed in dark clothing and masks took boxes from a UPS truck that were destined for the AT&T store at the hub.  Officers believe that thousands of dollars worth of phones may have been in the boxes. This possibly is an organized effort that has been  hitting  Bay Area phone stores.

Barricaded Suspect on Mission

FPD advises that Mission is closed near Pine due to a barricaded suspect. I have no further information at this time. The police have moved this event to a encrypted radio channel.

Fire Department Activity

Several engines are assigned to a vegetation fire in the Sunol area assisting ACFD.  Another engine company is assisting a hiker on Mission Peak. And there is a grass fire working near the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza.

A good source has said that the preliminary hearing for Father David, accused of several moral violations with a child, has been postponed until next month.  Apparently more victims have surfaced but it’s not known if Father David is responsible or another priest.

Thursday's Shooter Had Prior BART Arrest

According to a recent FPD news release, the man that shot at a passing Fremont patrol vehicle was Michael Felch, 30 years of age.  According to internet sources, a Fremont resident of that name and age was arrested by BART Police on Nov 7, 2018 at 4:10 a.m.  He was booked at Santa Rita on a variety of charges:  69 PC (resisting an officer- felony), 148a Pc (resisting arrest), 243b PC (battery on a peace officer), 594 PC (vandalism).  He was a fighter and probably had much hatred for law enforcement.  Since the shooting took place near BART,  did he think he was shooting at a BART vehicle?  Was this suicide by cop?  Perhaps these questions will be answered at the Thursday news conference.
Upon further internet research, I have found a Michael Felch of Fremont who was a graphic designer at Junior's Design Co with a specialty in graffiti.  The 594PC charge from November may have stemmed from spray painting at the Fremont BART Station.  Interesting that there were no drug or alcohol related charges indicating that he was sober.  And, apparently angry.

Officer James Taylor Involved In His Second Kill

According to a news release from FPD today, one of the officers involved in the Thursday shooting on Civic Center was Officer James Taylor.  You may recall that on Feb 5, 2017 Officer Taylor shot and killed a man on Mowry.  In this earlier case, Officer Taylor's canine attacked him instead of the suspect as they struggled along a frontage road.  The dog biting the officer put him at a disadvantage and he then used his gun to shoot the man he was struggling with.  A civil lawsuit again the City has been filed for wrongful death.  In the most recent case, he seemed to be the second or third officer on scene and shot the suspect as the suspect was crawling towards his firearm, which he reportedly picked up and pointed at the officers.

Grand Theft From T-Mobile

Two men in their mid twenties grabbed some phones from the T-Mobile on Fremont Blvd. in the Irvington District around 1 this afternoon and fled.  Officers are reviewing video data.  Apparently no one was hurt in the theft.

Rescue in Warm Springs; Man Trapped in Trench

Fremont Fire is enroute to the end of Lopes Court to rescue a man trapped up to his waist in a trench.  This is the area of South Grimmer and Old Warm Springs by the UPRR yard.
Update:  FFD on scene, worker has been freed somewhat by coworkers, but he is injured.  Still a rescue operation.  Subject has back injuries and unable to move by himself, per fire captain on scene. OSHA has been called in.   Fire crews are cleaning up and preparing to leave the scene. Apparently the victim is now in the ambulance.

Police Activity North 680 at South Mission

A San Jose CHP officer has stopped a stolen Pontiac on north 680 with three occupants and has requested cover from FPD officers.  A Dublin CHP officer is rolling code 3 to assist from Pleasanton.  FPD now has a unit arriving and advising 4 CHP units (apparently from the San Jose office) are on scene.  CHP has the driver in custody but two occupants remain in the vehicle.  Now advising Code 4, and FPD units are clearing.

Home Burglary Interrupted on Sundale

Around 3:30 this morning occupants of an apartment on Sundale Drive could hear someone trying to break into their door lock.  They called 9-1-1 and several officers responded.  The dispatcher could hear the noise of the subject trying to break the front door lock.  Officer La Strape, 1A2, arrived in short order, located the suspect outside the apartment and held him at gun point until back up officers arrived.

Disturbance Outside Hookah Lounge in Centerville

Just after 3 this morning officers were dispatched to the Dream Hookah Lounge in Little Kabul after a noise complaint was received.  Apparently people were entering and leaving the business and being loud outside.  The business, according to internet info, should have been closed at 2 a.m.  Officers arrived about ten minutes later and put out a code 4.  Apparently they were able to quiet it down or it was quiet upon arrival.

Police Activity at Fry's

Shortly after 9 this morning several FPD officers pulled four occupants out of a Nissan Altima in the parking lot at Fry's.  The call originally came out as an auto theft with the suspects holding the victim hostage and trying to get into his house.  According to radio traffic the victim convinced the suspects that he would get them some money, so they followed him while he drove his cousin's truck.  In the end, according to one of the officers, this all started in Manteca.  This does not sound like a clear/cut criminal case.  The four occupants had no wants, but only one had a valid drivers license.  Sometimes cases like this turn out to be civil in nature...guy not making payments on his car or something.  Must have been quite the scene in the parking lot on a Saturday morning
.

Angry Man With A Drill

A man was so angry at his ex-girlfriend, that he took a drill to her apartment complex, drilled a hole into the lock at the gate, went to her door and wrote "derogatory comments" on it.  The witness knows him by name and last  I heard officers were looking for him.

Audio Clip of Shooting on SoundCloud.Com

I have posted a 30 minute clip of radio traffic of the officer involved shooting on Civic Center Drive to my account on Sound Cloud.  The event starts 1:30 into the clip.  There are a few transmissions from UCPD as they were being scanned at the time of the shooting.  However, by 5:00 into the clip the scanner was locked on FPD Channel A.  You can access the clip by going to SoundCloud.com and searching out "ScannerFremont".  The track should be at the top of the list : "OIS-CivicCenterDr-041819".

SHOTS FIRED ON CIVIC CENTER BY WASHINGTON HOSPITAL

An officer has observed a subject shooting a handgun on Civic Center by Washington Hospital just before 10:50 this evening.  It appears that the officer, unit 2A5, has shot the individual and he is down now on Civic Center.  The suspect's weapon is underneath him, per radio traffic.  Numerous officers are in the area.  The armored vehicle is being called in for protection in order to take the suspect into custody.  Suspect may still be alive.  No motive given for shooting.  No other shooters outstanding per radio traffic.  No injuries to officers.
Update 11:06 pm.  Scene is stable and paramedics now allowed to come in to treat suspect.  Officers being sent into Washington West to make sure everything is ok.
Update 11:35 pm  Union City Police will send officers into Fremont to handle emergency calls while Fremont officers help investigate this officer involved shooting (OIS).  Numerous streets in the area of Walnut, Civic Center & Mowry are closed.

Hiker Questions Older Man With Child

A man in his fifties was walking along the Alameda Creek Trail near Old Canyon this morning with a five year old child.  To one hiker it looked odd.   They apparently didn't seem to go together.  The hiker asked the child if he knew him and what his name was.  He said the correct name and then the hiker  asked how he knew his name.  "He just old me" he said.  Red flag went up.  The man said he knew it looked odd, but he knew the parents and they were going for a walk.  The hiker called 9-1-1 and two officers arrived in short order.  The man was alone when talked to by officers.  His drivers license had been suspended and he was on probation.  I don't know how this turned out...could have been perfectly fine, or this could have ended in disaster, but for one concerned hiker, intervention was necessary.

Overturned Lexus Lands in Fire Dept. Parking Lot

It was an odd sight I was told.  A 2004 Lexus overturned in the parking lot of fire station no. 1 on Mowry at Argonaut shortly after 2 this afternoon.  FPD motor units arrived within seconds and found 2 people inside the vehicle.  I believe the jaws of life were used to allow the occupants to get out.  I don't know if there were any injuries.  This should help the fire departments response stats...this one will be measured in seconds.

Road Rage on Mission near Ohlone; Gun Brandished

Two vehicles northbound on Mission Blvd had a little road rage incident and one driver pulled a black handgun and displayed it to the other driver.  The suspect then hooked a U-turn at Anza and proceeded south on Mission.  Officers were unable to locate the 2 door Honda, but the witness was able to provide a good description of the driver, along with the license plate of the vehicle.  There were no reports of injuries.

Update on Rockin' Jump Weirdo

You read about it here first back on March 31st.  Now FPD has the man in custody and has released the details of the sad event here: https://local.nixle.com/alert/7231426/?sub_id=343109

Police Activity Blacow & Brophy

A Fremont PD sergeant has located a stolen car on Brophy west of Blacow after dispatch radioed info on an "LPR hit" of a stolen vehicle driving west on Mowry.  Unmarked units are keeping an eye on the abandoned vehicle and a suspect has been identified, but not located.  Marked patrol cars are keeping their distance from the scene, but are in the area.  The female suspect seems to have a history of auto theft and evading officers.  One officer said "you can't miss her- she is large".
Update:  suspect has left in the vehicle heading east on Mowry.  At least one officer has ID the suspect and they will not chase her down.  Apparently they will issue a warrant for her arrest and pick her up at a later place and time.

Another Luckys Thief Caught

A man walked into the Lucky Market in the Brookvale Shopping Center early this afternoon, stuffed some items in his backpack and walked out without paying.  Employees immediately call FPD and officers located the suspect on Fremont Blvd a few minutes later.  Several employees were in the parking lot, according to radio traffic, and pointed to officers where the suspect was.

Fight At Cloverleaf Bowl

A man was punched and threatened with a knife early this morning in the parking lot of the Cloverleaf Bowl.  According to the bartender, two separate groups came into the Cloverleaf Bowl shortly before 2 this morning with their own alcohol, and were asked to leave.  Apparently some words were exchanged later in the parking lot between the groups.  The victim fled as he called police.  The others left in a Mercedes down Bay Street.  Police had trouble locating the victim of the assault, but at one point the victim said he was at Fremont and Grimmer "doing jumping jacks".  An officer said the did not see anyone "doing calisthenics".  A few Mercedes sedans were stopped, but unknown if they were related to the incident.

A 6 Pack For 6 Pax

A vehicle is parked in front of the 7-Eleven on Mowry at Blacow with the driver reported to be drinking a can of beer.  There are six people in the car.  A 6 pack does not go very far in this situation assuming they are all sharing.  FPD officers are on the way.

Fremont Officer Rear-Ended on 680

2X8, Officer J. Kennedy, apparently going home, was rear-ended just now on 680 at Vargas Road.  He has requested CHP to respond.   A Fremont PD sergeant is enroute.  Apparently the other party is complaining of pain, but does not need an ambulance.  A tow has been requested for the patrol vehicle.  The officer's canine is with him and a dog carrier is being fetched to transport the dog in another vehicle.

EB Regional Parks Motor Officer in Nimitz Crash

Here is the tweet from EBRPD Police: Today, around 3:15 PM, an @RegionalParksPD Motorcycle officer was involved in a collision on Interstate 880 near Alvarado Niles. The officer was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries and is currently receiving treatment. CHP is investigating the collision.

ROBBERS ARRESTED IN BIG WARM SPRINGS BUST

Fremont Police patrol officers and detectives took four men into custody around 10 o'clock this morning in the Warm Springs district.  The original dispatch was to assist an "outside agency" that is surveilling these four men at the Denny's in Warm Springs.  The initial want was for strong arm robbery, meaning they used a threat of force to take something from someone, and this other agency requested FPD make the arrest.  My hunch is that the other agency was the FBI and these guys are wanted for something big and are not your common street robbers.  FPD had numerous patrol officers, detectives, K-9 officer and sergeants involved in the arrest.  As the four left the restaurant and were checking out a flat tire on their van, officers swept in and took them into custody with no resistance.

Shots Fired on Decoto

Shots were fired between two vehicles shortly after 4 this afternoon in the  McDonald's parking lot at Fremont and Decoto.  Both vehicles fled the area but officers have a good description of both vehicles.  Numerous officers and detectives are working the case. Information from Union City police officers is that this shooting may be related to Decoto gang members. At this time there are no known victims of the shooting.

The police live stream will also scan UCPD tonight due to this shooting.

Frying Pan Felony

Zone 1 officers are out on a family feud where an adult daughter threw a frying pan at her mother and struck her.  Initial report is that an ambulance is not needed.  The daughter has a history of not getting along with others.  The original call had this as an assault with a deadly weapon, a felony.  Officers on scene now putting out a code 4.  Their investigation may result in different charges, if any.

Girl Takes Daddy's Car; Gets Busted

Just before 1 o'clock this afternoon the dispatcher put out a broadcast for a stolen vehicle north on Mission from Washington.  This was an "LPR hit"- an alert from the license plate reader apparently located nearby.  Several units started searching the area before finally locating the car at McDonald's by 680.  The teen driver said she took it from her dad, but didn't tell him.  Ooops.  She and her friends were transported back to Mission High.  Others were taken to Ohlone.  A lunch break away from school turned out to be embarrassing, at a minimum, but they will have some stories to tell when they get back to class.

TWO ALARM FIRE ON CENTRAL; VICTIM FOUND

Fremont Fire Dept is on scene fighting what looks like an apartment fire on Central across from the DMV on Dusterberry.  A second alarm has been pulled.  FPD has been called to shut down traffic on Central Avenue.
Update 4:40 pm.  Shortly after the fire in the second story apartment was put out, firefighters located a victim in the apartment.  The subject was rushed out and to nearby paramedics waiting below.  Per radio traffic the victim is breathing but unconscious.

OPD Makes Bust at Walgreen's on Decoto

Oakland Police detectives arrested two individuals in the parking lot of Walgreen's on Decoto at Fremont Blvd around 1 o'clock this afternoon.  From radio traffic these seemed like people they were following and had wants for previous crimes.  They are searching the car and then will have it towed off.

2 More at In & Out

Security has  called Fremont police to let them know that two cars have been recently burglarized.

220 Traffic Signals In Fremont

There are 220 traffic signals in Fremont, and if you are like me, it seems that they are all RED most of the time.  Mayor Mei, in her recent State of The City address, said that 40% of those signals will be updated to new software by 2022.  This should allow for a smoother flow of traffic.

ANOTHER NAKED PERSON ON THE STREETS TODAY!

A naked woman has just been reported at Fremont and Grimmer.  She may have her top on, but her pants are down to her ankles.   This is the third report of a naked person (one male and two females) in the last 9 hours or so, in public, on the streets of Fremont.

Woman Robbed Outside of Union Bank

Details are slim at the moment, but there was a robbery shortly after 3 p.m. outside the Union Bank on Paseo.  I believe a woman was robbed, but I don't know what the take was.  An officer has a likely suspect stopped at this time on Stevenson.

In/Out Hit Again

Auto burg just occurred at the In/Out Pacific Commons (near Total Wine parking lot).  Officers have observed a possible suspect vehicle north on 880 from Thornton.  Suspect vehicle is an black Infinity 7DQZ987.
Update at 3:23  Citizen just called in from the north end of town reporting the above vehicle just parked and 3 dudes with backpacks got out and ran in 3 different directions.  The vehicle plate matched the one above.  At least three officers are enroute.
Update:  patrol officers will not be in the area as they wish unmarked units to cruise through.
Update:  looks like this vehicle is a San Francisco stolen and will be towed away.

Police Activity on Mowry at 880

Fremont detectives and patrol officers are in the area of Mowry and 880 attempting to locate a subject.  They believe the subject is in a tent and may be armed with a handgun.  The reason for the want is unknown at this time.  K-9 officer is on scene.

Update at 1:33...  subject in custody.

Naked Woman at Jack In The Box

I'm not making this up.  A woman with her top off and pants to her ankles is over by the Jack in the Box on Ardenwood.  The PD seems to know who it is (repeater offender- surprise!).  Now she is by the 84 ramp running around the grass.  Wonder if she knows the guy on Walnut this morning who had his pants off.

Happy Anniversary

On this day one year ago the Fremont Dispatch live stream came online on Broadcastify.com.  Since then we have heard a number of pursuits, robberies, burglaries, family feuds, etc.  The number of listeners has held steady at about 15-20 in the day time and 25-30 at night.  A recent high count was around 200 during that 24 minute chase into Hayward a few weeks ago.  Although the feed has dropped out in recent days due to some wifi issues here, it has been fairly reliable.  The aging HP Thin Client server fails every two weeks or so, but I'm usually able to bring it back up within a few minutes. I have intentionally turned off the feed on at least two occasions, both being suicide threats, where I felt the live stream could cause more harm than good.  Anyway, enjoy!

Indecent Exposure at Mormon Church

Well, not inside the church and probably not a member of the church, but there is a report of a man in the parking lot of the LDS Church, Walnut at Gallaudet, holding his pants (he is naked from the waist down) and touching himself.  Last seen walking towards the apartments under construction holding his pants.  Nice wake up call for the construction crew...

Update:  at 8:27 another report of the pants less man....now walking west on Walnut near Guardino still carrying his pants.  Oh, he just defecated on the sidewalk...

Boyfriend Hops Fence; Cops Called

They say that police officers are always on duty; always looking around for suspicious activity, even on their days off.  This morning an off duty officer, apparently pumping gas at a local station on Mission Blvd, observed a young man hop a fence into a backyard nearby.  Naturally he called dispatch and the cavalry was sent out.  Officers quickly set up a perimeter around the house while others made contact at the door.  Turns out it was a resident's boyfriend who hopped the fence, apparently taking a short cut.  Good observation none the less and I'm sure the boyfriend will take the longer route in the future.

Auto Burglary at In/Out Burger

A vehicle was broken into at the In and Out Burger parking lot in Pacific Commons.  There are several witnesses describing the suspect vehicle as a black Infinity G35 lic/ 6MMZ209...the plate comes back hot...wanted for reckless driving/ failure to yield (maybe from a prior burglary).  Officers are posted on 880.

Is The Police Press Relations Office Closed?

According to the FPD webpage, they have a Public Information Officer and two officer PIOs and a backup PIO.  They don't seem to be very active.  Last month only two police blotters were issued covering only two weekends.  Last Friday there was a serious robbery where a person walking on a public street was struck in the head with a baseball bat.  Later that day there was a 24 minute pursuit into Hayward.  Last night the SWAT team was in Milpitas helping to make an arrest or two. And of course the issue with transients- everyday in fact.  For some reason FPD refuses to inform the public of crime in our city, yet they brag about now being on Next Door, using Twitter,  Facebook, Nixle et al.  Technology is useless if nothing is input into the system.
Now a recent quote from Chief Petersen:"For the last several years, our agency has increased transparency through formal public information/communications and making ourselves available to our community through expanded community engagement programs."  Apparently this has ended.

Man With A Knife at Fremont Hospital

Employees reporting a man with a ten inch knife in the lobby at Fremont Hospital and is threatening harm to himself.  Multiple Fremont officers are en route code 3.   Latest radio report is that he threw the knife down.
Update:  Officers arrived within a few minutes and were able to quickly take him into custody without harm.

Stolen Car Stop on Nimitz

Everyday one of the several License Plate Readers that Fremont has signals a stolen car hit.  This morning the hit was on Mowry near 880.  2X8, Officer Kennedy, was able to get behind the vehicle and stop in on 888 near Alvarado exit.  The two occupants were taken into custody without incident.  This is a daily occurrence and hopefully these occupants can be tied to other crimes like auto burglaries, theft, etc.

Rookie On A Rainy Day

A rookie cop and her training officer on an enforcement stop on Mowry near fire station no. 1.  The new voice on the radio (2X6) is starting to sound more confident as she makes traffic stop after traffic stop.

SWAT Team Active in Milpitas Last Night

A fifteen year old boy, an apparent Vietnamese gang member, was taken into custody by Milpitas Police officers for armed robbery late last night.  Alameda County task force officers, along with Milpitas PD, surrounded a mobile home in north Milpitas around 9:30 last night.  Inside was the suspect, who may have committed up to seven armed robberies, along with his grandparents and others.  Commands to exit the house were give in Vietnamese as the officers believed the older family members did not speak English.  By 11:20 the suspect and a young female exited the house and were taken into custody.  SWAT teams from Fremont and Newark were active along with several K-9s and at least one drone.  There were at least eight Fremont patrol officers providing perimeter control.  This teen boy appeared to be a high value target that is suspected of committing a number of serious crimes.

Flaky Car Jack Call

So a guy gets a 2018 Honda Civic he is driving car jacked by two guys with guns in L.A.  Does he call the police to report this?  Oh no- he sends a text to the car owner.  24 hrs later the car owner is tracking the car and see's that it is in Fremont and calls the PD.  Now dispatch and the patrol officers are all excited about this but the guy that got car jacked never notified anyone in law enforcement.  The Honda is now north on 880 in Hayward.  Finally the lieutenant and sergeant intervene, call the cops back into the city and tell the victim to file a police report.  Why would the guy not file a report?  Why would the cops make a felony stop based on a phone call from L.A.?

Crazy Man At Suju's

He was an angry man.  He yelled at everyone.  He tossed out the "F" word freely.  His face was red with anger.  He wore a backpack and a large stick on his back.   He quickly removed the top of the garbage cans looking for food.  "You don't know what its like to be hungry!!".  "What are you going to do?  Call the cops?!"  He banged on the door for the owner to come out.  He was an angry man whose angry words were scaring people; not knowing if his anger would turn to physical harm.  In the end he pushed his bicycle down the street towards Dale Hardware.  Someone had in fact called the police and they were seen cruising the area.  One officer had an idea as to who it was but its not known if he was talked to.  Tomorrow will be another day, another hungry mental patient out on the loose scaring good citizens.

Unknown Federal Property

The picture below was taken on Technology just south of Auto Mall.  There is a fenced off area around about a 3 acre parcel that is flat.  There is a foundation so it seems buildings were there at one time.  Maybe some of you Fremont old timers can remember some type of federal building here.  I'm going to see what I can find on the internet.
After looking at old aerial photos it seems that the federal government may have owned a large swath of land from south of Auto Mall (Durham in the old days), east of Grimmer, and west of Fremont.  This large parcel would include the present FUSD admin building and their bus garage acreage.  What is left, apparently, is the parcel off Technology Circle.

Officer Gentry In Foot Pursuit

Fremont Police Officer Gentry, unit 2-O-3, apprehended a man after a short foot pursuit shortly before 6 o'clock this evening. The suspect had fled a traffic stop a few minutes earlier and made his way down Peralta to Parish and then into a apartment complex.  As Officer Gentry approached the suspect vehicle in the back of the complex the driver started to flee almost striking some pedestrians. He then fled on foot and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. Paramedics were called in, apparently for injuries sustained by the suspect.

Police Active Near Central and Joseph

Fremont Police officers have an apartment complex surrounded near Central and Joseph this afternoon after a report of a burglary in progress.  The suspect dismantled the interior video cameras during the burglary.  As of this writing officers are still in place.
Update:  Officers and the K-9 just made entry and the burglar was gone.  However, they did have good video of him in the bedroom before he dismantled the cameras.  The dude was wearing a Washington Nationals cap.  Sometimes these caps of red or blue are worn by gangsters and doesn't necessarily mean they are a fan of that team.  I don't think there is any gang that wears green and yellow, hence you seldom hear of a bad guy wearing an A's hat.  Just saying.

Crazy Woman on Niles Blvd.

A Fremont officer was conducting a welfare check on a woman on Niles and Rock around 2:00 this afternoon when she started acting up.  Soon a "code 3 cover" came out.  Apparently the woman was attempting to run into the street and the officer had trouble detaining her.  He managed to get one cuff on her, per radio traffic, but still needed assistance.  His back up arrived shortly and they were able to control her.  I don't believe there were any injuries from this incident.

SWAT Team Deployed Today

The call came in as a welfare check on a young man that did not show up for work.  He had been depressed and talked about owning a rifle.  There was a vague address for him in south Fremont, but later it was learned that he slept in his car.  Detectives were able to track his phone to his area of work across the bay.  His boss had set him up with a hotel room in an adjacent city.  First they said he wasn't going to harm himself and that he just wanted to drive around and think a bit.  Later it was determined that he was an angry ex-military man who would shoot it out.  That led to the SWAT team being deployed at the command post, which was the fire station on Grimmer.  There were numerous patrol officers and detectives working the case.  As of an hour ago it was believed he was still across the bay and Fremont was releasing all but a handful of officers from the search for the man.

Adding Alerts to the Scanner Radio App

Many of the blog readers here also listen to the Fremont Police Dispatch live stream through various apps on their smart phone or desktop computer.  Those that have the Scanner Radio App can program it to notify you when listeners reach a number of listeners that you program in.   Typically during the daytime there are about 10-15 listeners and during the night 20-30 listeners.  If something big goes down that number will shoot up rather quickly.  There were almost 200 listeners last Friday night to the pursuit and subsequent search in the Hayward hills.   If, for example, you set the alert to 50 listeners, you would receive a notification even with the app off, when the number of listeners reached that number.  This would give you an idea that something big is going down.  There is also a feature that allows you to set a number for any scanner active on Broadcastify.  This is handy feature allows you to learn about a big event anywhere in the country even if you don't have it as a "favorite".  I don't think other scanner apps have the alert feature, but I might be wrong.

Update on Assault by St Joseph School

The Fremont PD PIO has advised that they do have a suspect in custody from the Friday morning violent assault of a pedestrian with a baseball bat.   They hope to have a news release on this soon.  Again, I don't see why something couldn't have been put out that day.  As Hotrod Honey stated, the public has more eyes than the PD and we could have been on the look out for him.  Anyway, they were able to track him down and we'll hear more soon.

More On Friday Night's Pursuit Into Hayward

The Fremont Police PIO, in an email to me today, said the department did not plan on issuing a news release anytime soon.  Apparently the stolen vehicle was associated with other crimes in an adjacent county and they are still working leads.  I don't know why other departments in the Bay Area can provide basic details to their community about unusual activity their officers have been involved in, but not Fremont.  This is NOT transparency.  All of the bad guys know they are wanted and it seems to me basic details can be released.

Tesla To Buy Fremont Fire A New Drone

As part of a settlement with the EPA, Tesla will purchase a new drone for Fremont Fire that will be able to detect hazardous material via airborne sensors.   No joke this time.   Here is the link to the EBT story:
