Mayor Mei Mum on Shooting, Mental Illness

Maybe I missed it.  But I haven't read on social media or the print media any comments from our Mayor (or city council members) about a mentally ill man shooting at a Fremont cop.  You would think that this would be of interest to city leaders.  Next time the victim may not be a passing officer in his car but a doctor, or nurse, or someone out for a walk, or god forbid a child or children.  We know the streets of Fremont are occupied by mentally ill people.  You can see them walking with that dazed look.  You can hear them yelling obscenities to no one in particular.  You can see them waving sticks and yelling threats.  Sometimes they are naked.  Sometimes they will urinate or defecate on your property.  Sometimes they use alcohol or drugs or sometimes its just their condition that they have no control over.  On the night of April 18th we learned what a mentally ill man with a gun can do. But The City doesn't seem to know how to deal with the issue.  Officers typically tell them to "move along".  Some are booked on a 5150 72 hr eval only to be released back into the public square.  This is a nationwide issue, but the solution will be on the streets.  Something needs to be done before tragedy hits home.
