Is The Police Press Relations Office Closed?

According to the FPD webpage, they have a Public Information Officer and two officer PIOs and a backup PIO.  They don't seem to be very active.  Last month only two police blotters were issued covering only two weekends.  Last Friday there was a serious robbery where a person walking on a public street was struck in the head with a baseball bat.  Later that day there was a 24 minute pursuit into Hayward.  Last night the SWAT team was in Milpitas helping to make an arrest or two. And of course the issue with transients- everyday in fact.  For some reason FPD refuses to inform the public of crime in our city, yet they brag about now being on Next Door, using Twitter,  Facebook, Nixle et al.  Technology is useless if nothing is input into the system.
Now a recent quote from Chief Petersen:"For the last several years, our agency has increased transparency through formal public information/communications and making ourselves available to our community through expanded community engagement programs."  Apparently this has ended.

  2. Thanks Hotrod. It is frustrating and the local media only reports what the police put out, otherwise no crime is reported. Also..the Mayor gave her State of the City report last week and I don't think she even talked about crime! I'll have to read it again to make sure...but you would think there would be a comment about auto burglaries on the increase at least.

  3. You’re welcome. Agreed. It’s getiing worse and some are become more violent because they know Fremont won’t do anything. They are basically cited and released.
