Tesla Patrol Vehicle Used In Pursuit

Fremont Police Department deployed their new Tesla patrol vehicle in Friday night's pursuit said Chief Petersen early today.  The vehicle was equipped with new LIDAR technology that allowed the patrol vehicle to stay behind the suspect vehicle at a predetermined distance.  This allowed the autopilot to control the vehicle throughout the pursuit with no human intervention.  In fact, according to the Fremont chief, there were no humans in the vehicle. " Our street crimes crew was sitting on a stolen vehicle at the Motel 6 North early Friday night . We programmed the Tesla to follow the vehicle when it left the lot and to activate the lights and siren when the speed exceeded 20 mph" said Chief Petersen.  " While we did not have a police officer in the vehicle we did have a trained canine unit inside. You should have seen the look on people as the Tesla drove by with the dog behind the steering wheel.  I haven't laughed so hard since my days at Stanford when I kicked a soccer ball off the dean's rear end" the Chief said. Asked if this would be a continuing practice the chief sounded doubtful.  " The police union is upset because they are afraid the canines will be writing traffic tickets but Elon called me and offered me free Earthquakes tickets if we do it again, so maybe".
+++++++++++  APRIL  FOOLS DAY. ++++++++++++

Busy Sunday

This last day of March was a warm and sunny day here in Fremont. Fremont police was busy most of the day with a variety of service calls. Early this morning in front of O'Reilly's an officer had two at gunpoint. At this time I don't know what for or how it was resolved. Later on it at Rock and Jump a man was doing something very inappropriate on the trampoline. Witnesses had a good car description and license plate. I'm sure he'll get a knock and talk from the department. Then a sideshow activity just before 6 o'clock in the Dumbarton Circle area. Apparently there was a minor injury traffic accident possibly due to reckless driving.

Vehicle Strikes Parked Cars; Catches Fire

A vehicle has struck several parked cars on Gatewood Street and caught fire. Fremont police officers are on scene and a fire engine is on the way .  The driver did sustain injuries.

Union Pacific Blocking Fremont Streets

A Union Pacific Railroad freight train is presently stopped at Niles Junction and blocking the crossings at Walnut and Stevenson.  The train has been there since 4:15 p.m. and the engineer has  been trying to contact their dispatcher on the radio without success.  A Fremont Police officer inquired with dispatch if they were aware of the train blocking streets.  She said they were and had been in contact with UPRR.  Then the train dispatcher calls the train at 4:33 saying there is an Amtrak in the way and she will move them when she can.  The question is, had the dispatcher answered the train in a timely manner, would it have been moved beyond Niles Junction in a timely manner and not block city streets?  I believe there is a ten minute time limit and then the railroad could face penalties.  Normally if there is going to be a delay at the junction, the trains are held at the golf course prior to Stevenson so as not to block trains.

Silence From FPD On Last Night's Pursuit

Here we are some 15 hours after last nights 24 minute pursuit that reached speeds of 100 mph and no word from Fremont Police.  Data from this blog and the online scanner reveal a high interest in this event.  It seemed that half of Fremont's patrol officers were working the search for the suspects within the city limits of Hayward for several hours.  Perhaps because no one was shot or killed or perhaps because no suspects were apprehended, the public affairs people thought it not necessary to send out a news release.  While Chief Petersen talks of transparency, the department seems very hesitant to comment on high profile events.
There was a pursuit early Saturday morning in the San Leandro area.  Two people were arrested and the Alameda County Sheriff was able to crank out a news release.

Funeral For Former Fire Chief Today

There will be lots of activity around St. Joseph Catholic Church in the Mission San Jose district today as the funeral for former Fremont Fire Dept. Chief Lydon will be held today at 11:00 a.m.  Fremont Police motor officers have been busy this morning escorting the hearse and family members from the funeral parlor to the church.

Eckersley Traded to Red Sox

It was on this day in 1978 that Dennis Eckersley was traded from the Cleveland Indians to the Boston Red Sox in a multi-player deal.  The Eck went on to win 20 games for the Sox that season.  The 1972 Washington High grad went on to a very successful baseball career which landed him in the Baseball Hall of Fame.  But more importantly locally, the Washington High baseball field is named after him:
Dennis Eckersley Field.

Huge Search in Hayward

Details are limited at the moment...but a long hot pursuit started sometime after 7 this evening and ended in the Hayward Hills near Garin Park.  I believe the want is stolen vehicle, brandishing a weapon and assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle).  More info later.  Scanner locked on HPD as all the traffic seems to be there now.  CHP has a copter overhead calling out hot spots they see on their equipment and directing officers in.  The area of the search is a residential area east of Mission and Industrial Blvd.  There were four suspects in the vehicle.
This all started at 7:49 p.m. at the Motel 6 North.  A vehicle tried to run down a Fremont officer in the parking lot there and then fled south on Fremont Blvd.
Here is the route of flight:  Fremont Blvd-Decoto-north on 880 to Alvarado-Niles Blvd- then south 880-west on Thornton-Cedar-Thornton-Newark-east on 84-north 880-Tennyson-south on Mission-left on Alquire Parkway (crashed in the neighborhood) 8:13 p.m.
Total pursuit time:  24 minutes.
As of 10:30 p.m. Fremont and Hayward officers are still searching for the suspects.  I don't know if they have any of them in custody or not at this time.  The CHP helicopter has left or will be soon and I believe there are two drones up.

Another Violent Robbery

A woman on Chapel was pushed down and had her purse stolen a few minutes ago.  Apparently she had just left Chase Bank on Paseo with some cash and may have been followed.  Police are checking bank video as I type.  I don't know if this is related to this morning's robbery, but in both cases the suspect was a tall black male.  The suspect vehicle in this latest case was a beige or gray Lincoln.

Violent Robbery In Front of St. Joseph School

The victim sustained "significant head injuries" per the on scene sergeant after being struck in the head with a baseball bat and robbed on their wallet.  This violent robbery took place just before 8:30 this morning on Mission Blvd across from St. Joseph Catholic School in the Mission San Jose district.  The suspect was last seen driving north on Mission Blvd in a white Chevrolet Cobalt.

Update on San Mateo Bridge Pursuit

Remember, you read about it first right here on Fremont Streets.   Here is a link to the EBT story:

Man With a Gun Call at McDonalds

Several officers are on the way to the McDonalds on Fremont by Washington High on a report of a man pulling a handgun out of his backpack.  He has since put the gun back in and has left on foot.
Update at 3:55- an officer has one at gun point.  Another subject related to this call has been stopped as well.  Two subjects detained.  The backpack is secured.

Security Guard Has Crappy Day

He told him not to do it.  He did it anyway and left the evidence behind.  Doubtful, however, that investigators will take a DNA sample.  You see, another human being has defecated in public here in Fremont this morning.  This time it was in a parking lot adjacent to Civic Center and BART Way.  After the act was completed, according to radio traffic, the suspect got into a vehicle and nearly struck the guard on his way out of the lot.  I believe they have a license plate so the sinker can expect a knock and talk from the PD.

Robbery Suspects Stopped on Nimitz

It's a familiar scenario.  Bad guys from Oakland drive down the Nimitz Freeway to Fremont, commit a theft or robbery, jump back on 880 and head back to Oakland.  Fremont officers are hip to this and have been for sometime.  At 9:40 last night 3 people walked out of the Target at Pacific Commons (see story below) without paying for the items.  One of them, a woman with blonde hair and wearing a yellow sweater, punched an employee as they left.  They got into a silver or gray BMW that was waiting for them.  While Zone 3 officers interviewed witnesses and reviewed video data, Zone 2 officers were setting up at freeway onramps.  One unit, 2A6, spotted a similar vehicle traveling north on 880 about 15 minutes later.  The vehicle was registered out of Oakland and the tags were expired.  An enforcement stop was made at the Alvarado-Niles exit.  After back up officers arrived, two males and two females were removed from the vehicle.  One of the females matched the description of the woman who punched the Target employee.  I can't confirmed that they were arrested but I suspect that they were.

Robbery at Target, Pacific Commons

Two females and a male are wanted for robbery this evening from the Target at Pacific Commons.  One of the suspects, a female, punched a store employee when confronted about leaving the store without paying for the clothing items they took.  They left in a gray BMW.  Fremont officers are cruising the area and taking statements.  According to the employee most of the stolen items have been recovered.

Wild 100 MPH Chase Across the San Mateo Bridge

San Mateo Police officers chased auto burglary suspects across the San Mateo Bridge shortly after 8 o'clock this evening, reaching speeds of 100 mph.  California Highway Patrol officers joined in at the toll plaza as the pursuit of the silver Honda continued across 880 into Hayward.  At one point the vehicle made a right hand turn onto Santa Clara Avenue and stopped.  A felony stop was initiated, but the Honda backed up quickly into the CHP cruiser.  The officer was not hurt, but the chase continued with five San Mateo officers resuming the chase, now north on 880.  The Honda exited at Hesperian and then turned east on Lewelling Avenue and then north on Ashland Ave in unincorporated San Leandro.  Down E 14th St to the northbound 238 on ramp where the vehicle stopped and a felony stop was initiated.  Three suspects were quickly taken into custody.

Sullivan Underpass Closed Due to Flooding

We have had some steady moderate to heavy rain for over an hour and Sullivan underpass in the Niles District flooded.  This, as Niles residents will tell you, is not unusual.

Tesla Patrol Car Out On Patrol

Fremont Police, in a tweet sent yesterday afternoon, announced that the Tesla patrol vehicle is out in the streets responding to radio calls.  Here is a link to their announcement:

Mentally Ill Man at Starbucks

Sound familiar?  This time a customer has called in about a man acting strange in the patio area at the Starbucks on Mowry near Luckys.  Said he "may be mentally ill".  Odds are the police will have him "move along" and we'll later hear a call about him down the road somewhere...

Special City Council Meeting in Warm Springs Thursday

I just received email on this...there will be a discussion of traffic and auto burglaries.  Here is a link to the agenda:
https://www.fremont.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_03282019-1671

Kicking The Transient Down The Street

Often it seems that problem transients are told to "move along" after a complaint is received of their public behavior only to be causing a problem somewhere else.  An illustration of this occurred today on Civic Center.  Earlier this morning security at Kaiser Hospital told a middle aged transient woman to leave their property after observing her antisocial behavior.  A few minutes later Starbucks across the street called complaining of the same woman.  I'm assuming she was gone upon police arrival or told to "move along".  Now, some four or five hours later,  a woman matching that description is back on Kaiser property.  Not only is she yelling at no one in particular, but her clothes are tossed about and she is exposing herself.  Again, there must be some facility other than jail that can house these people and keep them safe and off the streets.

Smoke in the Cabrillo

Just before noon today Fremont Fire responded to Magellan Drive to a report from the home owner of smoke in the residence.  Two engine companies searched the home, and at the time of this writing, it appears that there was no active fire.  Two engine companies remained and FPD was called in for traffic control.  PGE was also responding to a wire down in the area.

Scary Few Minutes at Home on Arkwood

A scary few minutes for a couple of women home alone in the garage of a home on Arkwood in the Irvington District this morning.  There was banging at the front door and they could see a young man with a red shirt on trying to break down the door, so it seemed.  They called 9-1-1 and six or seven officers responded, arriving about 3 minutes later.  Initially the man was gone from the front of the house upon the first officer's arrival and the front door was secure.  I don't think they found the guy as of this writing.
Update:  In the end, it looks like this might have been some kind of communication problem where the man at the door had permission to be there or knew another occupant of the house.  Units cleared the area after searching the house and talking to several people.

Police Activity West of The Hub

Fremont Police officers were active in the area of Logan & Sacramento and neighboring streets looking for a prowler early this afternoon.  It all started when unit 1X1 observed a known subject run from him, eventually hopping fences into adjacent streets.   While another officer located the subject and held him at gunpoint, unit 1X1 then observed another subject hopping fences away from the officer.  Numerous officers poured into the neighborhood, but by 3 p.m. it appeared he had not been located.  Last I heard this second subject was considered a prowler, but to my knowledge no burglary had been reported.  This could all change as people return home this evening.

Bus Driver Thwarts Auto Burglary

An A.C. Transit bus driver confronted a transient looking male trying to break into a truck's tool box in the Raley's parking lot this morning.  According to dispatch radio traffic the transient said it was not his truck but continued to try to break into the tool box which was in the bed on a pickup truck.  The bus driver apparently then called FPD and directed a nearby sergeant to the suspect.  A code 4 was quickly put out by the sergeant after talking with the suspect for a few moments.  Whether the transient was arrested or not is unknown.

Man Robbed on Lake Arrowhead

The call just came over the radio..a man was out on a neighborhood walk when a suspect with a gun approached and robbed him.  Officers are on the way.  More details to follow.  This neighborhood is at the far north end of Fremont.
Update:  The robbery occurred on Lake Arrowhead at Mono Lake near Harvey Park.  There were two suspects, one of which had a handgun.  They both ran south on Mono Lake.  I believe a cell phone was taken, but I don't know what else, if anything.

Cars Forming at Pacific Commons- Possible Sideshow Later

The security guard at Lowe's at Pacific Commons has called FPD to report 70-80 cars gathering in the parking lot and is concerned of a possible sideshow to happen.  Zone 3 officers are presently tied up in Zone 1 looking for various males acting strange and threatening people.
Update:  7:37 pm  sideshow activity now on Paseo at Dumbarton Circle (Ardenwood area).

Men Acting Out in Irvington- Possibly High on Drugs

Fremont officers are out checking reports of two separate individuals possibly high on drugs and acting strange in public.  The first is at Grimmer and Doane....a man riding his bike in the street, then stopping to hit a tree and post and yelling at no one.  Then a few minutes later another man is outside the Starbucks on Fremont at Five Corners yelling at people.  Witnesses thought he was high on something as well.  Hopefully they have their pants on and haven't urinated anywhere in public.
Update-  The first subject was now observed near Bronco Billy's on Blacow and was threatening harm to people.  Still out on his white bicycle.

Another Injury Crash- Mission at Driscoll

Two vehicles in this one as well.  Driver of one car reported to not getting out of his vehicle and may be dazed.

Injury Wreck on Paseo at Peralta

Two vehicles have collided at Paseo and Peralta.  One man reported to have crawled out of his vehicle and is bleeding from the head.  Officers and paramedics are on the way.

Stolen U-Haul Van Gets Away From UCPD

A UCPD officer spotted a stolen van driving on Alvarado-Niles Blvd a few minutes ago.  As back up officers moved in to assist, the van turned on to the northbound 880 on ramp, but then drove south on the northbound shoulder.  The pursuit was then terminated.  A minute later,  a CHP officer, unaware that UCPD was after this van, reported "a white U-Haul van just passed me going south on the northbound shoulder at 60 mph".  Other CHP officers moved into the area to attempt to locate but did not find it.  Apparently it exited at north Fremont Blvd (Alvarado).  Fremont officers are checking streets near 880.  The van was stolen out of San Jose.

Another Disgusting Transient at Washington Hospital

Around 10:30 Saturday night the staff at WTH called to report a 46 year old male was ready to be discharged but is refusing to leave.  This is the second visit to the hospital today for this man, according to radio dispatch traffic.  Staff further stated that when told to leave, he stood up and urinated in the room.  There must be some place to put these people who have "few life skills".  Public resources (police, fire, hospital) are being stretched.  Obviously jail is not the answer, but there must be a secure facility with needed services that they can stay at and be off the streets.

Drug Bust in North Fremont Last Night

Fremont Firefighters were called to the parking lot of Lucky Market at the north end of Fremont Blvd (Charter Square) late last night to dispose of the very potent carfentanil drug.  Earlier Fremont Police officers stopped a stolen vehicle in the parking lot and took at least two people into custody.  Apparently in the vehicle were an unknown quantity of carfentanil and a mix of other narcotics.  The initial engine dispatched immediately called for a level 2 hazardous material response.  Carfentanil, according to a DEA bulletin, is 100 times more potent than fentanyl and 10,000 times more potent than morphine.  Carfentanil is used as a tranquilizing agent for elephants and other large animals and a small amount of it can cause serious health issues to humans, per DEA guidance.  Fremont Fire had two engine companies, a haz mat crew and two battalion chiefs responsd.  They later asked for an ambulance to standby in case needed.
Update:  FPD, in their police blotter issued Monday afternoon, stated the drug was not identified, but the driver of the vehicle said it was fentanyl.

Second Street Life Alert Call

A Union City P.D. traffic officer advised the Fremont dispatcher that his grandmother's Life Alert had gone off and to have Fremont Fire respond to her residence on Second Street, and that he is en route there.  A UCPD patrol officer advised he was en route as well.  And a Fremont Police officer was dispatched there code 3.  Upon arrival, the grandson officer could not locate his grandmother in the home and that her car was gone.  Officers are trying to find her as of this writing.
Update:  The grandmother has been located at 9:30 and she is ok.  Apparently another false medical alarm.  "Help, I can't get up."

Shirt Man

A man walked out of the Walmart  on Albrae a few minutes ago with seven shirts that he did not pay for.  He then put on all seven shirts and walked away.

Transient Makes Threats at Carl's Jr.

A transient at the Carl's Junior in Warm Springs threatened to light the customers vehicles on fire if they did not buy him food, per radio dispatch traffic.

City Council Votes To Demolish Old Fire Station 6

Once again Fremont City Council took the kool-aid and approved more housing, this time along Fremont Blvd in the Centerville District.  While most of the debate was about whether to keep the fire station or not, certainly traffic and schools will be impacted. SiliconSage developers were able to convince 4 of 7 council members that tearing down historic fire station number 6 and building some 165 housing units would benefit the community.  Only members Bacon, Kassan and Mayor Mei objected.  Here is the story from EBT reporter Joey Geha:

Crazy Woman at Washington Hospital Making Threats

A security guard has called FPD to complain about a woman in the ER parking lot threatening to kill  people.  She is also throwing her belonging out of her car.  No weapons were seen.  Perhaps a mental eval is in order.

DRUNK DRIVER CHARGED WITH MURDER

Fremont PD, in a Nixle message this afternoon, advised that the Alameda County D.A. has charged Mr. Juan Martinez, the driver arrested in the fatal traffic accident on Central Sunday afternoon, with MURDER.  Congrats to FPD officers for gathering evidence, providing a professional investigation report to the D.A. so the murder charge can be presented.  As stated in the Nixle message, Mr. Martinez signed a form after his SECOND drunk driving conviction stating that if he kills someone while driving drunk that he could be charged with murder.

Another Fremont Transient Class Act

FPD and FFD on the way to an address on Camden to check a report of a passed out female near a dumpster with a cigarette in her mouth.  I say again...passed out woman with a cigarette in her mouth.  What a nice day though to have a few drinks, light up a smoke, and take a little nap by your favorite dumpster.

KILLER DRUNK DRIVER HELD ON JUST $95K BAIL!

According to a news story in the EBT, the only felony the alleged drunk driver was arrested on was felony hit and run and felony drunk driving.  And his bail was set at just $95,000.  The driver had his license suspended, and if this was for a prior drunk driving conviction, then I believe he can be charged with murder (187 PC) in this case.  He is due to be arraigned tomorrow in Fremont court.  Hopefully the district attorney, after reviewing evidence provided by FPD will up the charges to some serious felonies.    Here is the story:
https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2019/03/17/dui-suspect-arrested-after-fatal-fremont-collision/

St Patrick's Day Wrap Up

A bad combination of a major drinking holiday and a rare sunny and warm late winter day here in Fremont has led to tragedy.  There were several man down calls that involved drunks, to start things off.  Then at 6:17 p.m. a drunk driver drove his car into the opposing lane on Central and killed the passenger in the car he struck.  He fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after in the backyard of a nearby home.  Two hours later a fight broke out on Mission north of Nursery.  Four vehicles were parked or crashed in the area and 3-4 people were fighting it out.  One person was down on the sidewalk unconscious.  He was taken to a hospital with head trauma.  FPD escorted the ambulance...a sign of possible gang involvement.  Fifteen minutes or so later a drunk woman crashes her KIA sedan into a parked car on Faulkner in  Glenmoor.  Her air bags deploy.  She takes off running down the street.  Apparently no one was injured except, perhaps, the hit and run driver.  Last I heard she was still outstanding but they have a good description of her and I'm confident she will be located.

Police Activity Mission & Nursery

Numerous officers are on the way code 3 to a report of a solo traffic accident with a fight breaking out.  2-3 males vs. another male.  Now several callers stating one man is down and appears unconscious.  This is on Mission just north of Nursery.
Update- per officer on scene, all involved are accounted for.  Two are injured, including a female juvenile, and two others are being detained.

Head On Fatal Crash on Central Near Blacow

The call came in around 6:17 this evening... a mini van crossed over the median on Central and struck a sedan head on.  The driver of the mini van then fled on foot.  Traffic was rerouted in the  area.  The driver of the other car looked injured...possibly going into cardiac arrest per officer on scene.  The suspect was located in a backyard on Briarwood and is being held at gun point.  Suspect now in cuffs and is facing felony hit and run charges. The driver of the car the mini van struck sustained fatal injuries per FPD Advisory Message.  The suspect now faces manslaughter at a minimum.

Man Down Call on Walnut

There is a report of a man down on Walnut near Liberty.  FPD and FFD are en route.  These types of calls were fairly rare in Fremont in years past.  Unfortunately there seems to be 3-4 of these daily now.  From my observations most of these are people passed out from alcohol.  Some have had a medical episode.  Some are deceased.
Update-  1X9 arrested this man for being drunk in public.

Man With A Knife Call at Safeway Five Corners

Officers are rolling code 3 to the Safeway at Five Corners on  a report of a man brandishing a knife.  One unit on scene and has suspect at gunpoint.  Three additional officers are seconds away.

Update- subject detained.  He sounds familiar to the officers.

Hotel Washington Hospital

They must make it comfortable for the patients at Washington Hospital here in Fremont.  There is another patient, a man in his late 50s, that is refusing to leave after being treated.  He has a sling on his right arm and has threatened the staff.  Seems like there is one or two of these calls everyday.

Robbery at The Hub

Officers are on the way to Target at The Hub after a report of a person pushing a shopping cart full of items out of the store and punching an employee.  The person then tried to hit the employee with their car as they left in the parking lot.  Suspects are a male and female.  Officers are arriving in the area now.

News From L.A.- Fake Kidnap

A little bit out of the area but this story illustrates how sometimes a call dispatched on the scanner turns out to be something totally different.  Here is the link to a New York Times story:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/16/us/los-angeles-kidnapping-music-video.html

Indecent Exposure (314PC)

This has to be the same woman that is often seen in Fremont in various states of undress.  This afternoon she was walking near Fremont and Mission View with her jacket open and nothing on underneath per radio traffic.  I didn't follow up to see if they contacted her or not.

7-Eleven Grimmer Now

Perhaps its the Slurpees that attracts the transients to the 7-Elevens.  Over at the 7-Eleven on Grimmer at Blacow a man is smoking by the gas pumps and refuses to leave.  Now the report is that he has moved away from the pumps but is still there.  Officers are en route.

Auto Burglary at Smoking Pig BBQ

A woman is smoking hot after someone smashed her car window and took her purse around 8:30 this morning in the parking lot of Smoking Pig BBQ on Mowry.  Suspect vehicle a green Chrysler 300.
Update:  suspect vehicle may have been involved in an accident on Paseo at Peralta.  Man matching the suspect description is outside of the vehicle.
Update:  FPD has confirmed via a Tweet that they did take a suspect into custody.  The object thrown threw the back windshield was not a rock, but a cinderblock!  I believe the purse has been recovered and returned to the victim.

Woman Yelling at 7-Eleven Customers

A woman in her fifties is yelling at customers for no apparent reason at a 7-Eleven in the Warm Springs district.  Officers are on the way to Mission and Mohave to quell the disturbance.
Update:  An officer on scene has radioed that the woman is complaining about mental health issues and isn't feeling well.  An ambulance is on the way.

HPD Shuts Down 880 Last Night

Hayward Police officers shut down southbound 880 near Tennyson around 7:45 last night in order to conduct a high risk felony stop.  The reason for the stop is unknown.  CHP officers ran traffic breaks to slow traffic into the area.  After the occupants were taken into custody, HPD reopened the Nimitz.  Along this same stretch almost 12 hours later, a white pick up truck overturned onto the center median wall.  Only minor injuries were reported, but the two fast lanes were blocked.  CHP is on scene at this time.

Eggers Burglary Update

You heard it live on the scanner feed and read about it here on Fremont Streets.  Now FPD has  a Nixle  message out confirming that 3 suspects were taken into custody.

Vacation

Fremont Streets will be mostly inactive this week as I leave town for a short vacation.  I will try to make an occasional post on anything big that I become aware of.  The FPD dispatch stream will be on but not monitored on a regular basis.  If the stream goes down, it may be several hours before it returns.  Looks like the sun will be out all week, so you can count on some bad wrecks, loud parties, drunks, etc.

Client Locks Real Estate Agent Out of Home

The ever growing problem of the mentally ill out on the streets took a new turn this afternoon in the north part of town.  A real estate agent was showing a client a home, but after the tour had ended the client refused to leave.  She called FPD for assistance stating that she thought he had mental health issues.  While officers were on the way over, she called back again.  The client had locked her out of the home.  In the end an ambulance was called for the subject to send him off for a mental health evaluation.

Home Burglars Caught on Eggers

Numerous FPD officers are on Eggers between Farwell and Granville Drive working a home burglary with suspects in custody.  I believe there are 2-3 in custody and maybe 1-2 that are still outstanding.

Car in the Creek; Niles Canyon Shutting Down

A car has crashed into Alameda Creek east of Palomares Road.  Fremont Fire is on scene and requesting Fremont Police shut down eastbound traffic so they can safely conduct a rescue operation.  On scene besides the battalion chief are two engines, a truck and an ambulance.  The truck just radioed that the patient will not be transported to a hospital, apparently having no or minor injuries.  The call of the crash was around 8:43 from a citizen that could see taillights from a vehicle that had overturned in or near the creek, according to CHP dispatch logs.   The female driver, the only occupant, was able to walk away from the crash.

Idiot Has His Car Stolen

I can't make this stuff up.  He must be new to Fremont.  Or the Bay Area, for that matter.  Dude drives his Honda Accord to El Patio (across from the train depot where numerous homeless hang out), leaves the car running and goes inside to pick up food he ordered earlier.  And, of course, the car is gone..last seen south on Fremont Blvd with unknown occupants.

Another Officer Needs Help Call

I missed the location, but another out of control person required several officers to control and put in a "wrap".  Sounded like the subject was being arrested for 273.6 PC (violating a restraining order).  Listening in on the ambulance to hospital channel, the male suspect threw his arm through a window causing lacerations to his upper arm with minimal blood loss.  He is stable but agitated.  FPD is on board the ambulance as it travels to a local hospital.

4 Guys Needed to Subdue a Female at Five Guys

Officer needs backup at Five Guys at Pacific Commons to "wrap" a female who is out of control.  Now he says they have her in the car and do not need to "wrap" her.  Initially the officer called for a sergeant and two additional officers.  She could be heard screaming in the background of radio transmissions.  The woman is being arrested for being intoxicated in public, per radio traffic.
Update at 5:13 pm  Officer has her at WTH ER for an eval and has just requested back up.  Apparently she is acting out again.

Police Activity in Niles

The call came in as a possible kidnapping on Niles Blvd- a man trying to force a woman into his car.  In the end, after talking with both parties involved, this turns out to be a husband-wife disturbance.  Several officers were in the area initially, and then at Mission and Mowry on a traffic stop.

Disturbance at WTH ER

A 69 year old woman has been discharged from the Washington Hospital ER but refuses to leave, per FPD radio traffic.  She has also threatened to assault the staff.  This is a known transient that has had contact with FPD in the past.
Side note:  Officers are being diverted from this call to Third Street in Niles to check on a subject who activated his satellite alert system from his BMW.  Seems to me this is no different than a residential alarm and probably bogus.  In this era of cellphones,  seems unlikely someone in a city environment would push an alarm button for anything when you have cell service.  OH, guess what?  Dispatch made contact with the car owner and he is Code 4, just setting up the alarm system.  What a waste of time.
Update-  12:30 p.m.  FPD finally made it over here after dealing with a few other calls and have reported that she is walking out, but dispatch may hear from her again.

Fight At Auto Repair Shop

Officers are there now trying to sort this out on a rainy Saturday morning.  Apparently a customer was in a dispute regarding a repair bill.  The owner threatened to keep and sell their car.  I believe a ceramic coffee mug was thrown. A translator was needed to communicate from the customer to the FPD dispatcher.   Sounded heated.   In the end this turned out to be a civil matter and no prosecution desired for any possible criminal acts.  Whether deserved or not, you can count on a bad Yelp review...

BART OUT OF SERVICE SYSTEM WIDE

A power failure has shut down the BART system this morning system wide.  Here is a link to the EBT story: https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2019/03/09/bart-system-down-after-overnight-problems/

Update- As of 9 a.m. they are back up and running.

Big Crash Scene on Leslie

A vehicle struck another car which then struck several parked cars on Leslie between Sundale and Stevenson around 2:30 this afternoon.   The driver, who appeared on drugs and very agitated, per a caller to FPD, fled the scene.  Apparently someone was injured- air bags were deployed in a blue Kia Optima parked in the street.  At least six FPD officers were on scene investigating.  There were at least 3 victim vehicles.

Ped Struck on Auto Mall

A pedestrian was struck by a car on Auto Mall at Osgood around 2:00 this afternoon.  An officer on scene radioed that the ped had a broken leg and arm.

Two Serious Accidents Working

According to CHP data, 2 vehicles struck a ped on Mission at Warm Springs.  CHP and FPD on scene there.  And north 880 at Decoto off ramp is a solo vehicle.  FPD and CHP there as well.  These accidents happened about 15 minutes ago.

Man With An Axe

Officers are out now with a man with an axe on Alvarado near the Alameda Creek Trail.  He just tossed the axe so officers are able to safely approach and detain.  The suspect reportedly brandished the axe in front of at least two people, per radio reports.
Update-  Suspect may be arrested for 422 PC (making criminal threats to cause bodily harm) as well as brandishing.  There are apparently two victims from this crime that occurred on the creek trail.  EBRPD police are en route to take a report as this is their jurisdiction.

Winds Are Stirring Up Trouble

Officers are en route to the north part of town to check a report of a man punching another man.  The fight is over, but the suspect seems high on drugs and is still in the area.  Then in the Irvington area a man with mental issues is acting out in a home.  The family members have exited.  Several officers, including one from the MET (Mobile Evaluation Team) are en route. And off of Driscoll a room mate disturbance.  Officers are on the way there as well.
Update at 5:46 p.m.  Calming wind prevailed and it appears that all of the above incidents were resolved peacefully.

Teen Girl Steals Mac Book Air

A teenage girl stole a Mac Book Air from the Starbucks on Decoto Road in U.C. around 3 o'clock this afternoon.  She was described as being 14-16 years old.  She was last seen walking across Decoto towards Alvarado-Niles.
Update:  It appears that a suspect has been taken into custody.  Several witnesses were transported to ID an individual  that UCPD had stopped.

More on Commenting

Maybe it's just me, but I did notice a problem in trying to comment to a post as "anonymous" when using an iPhone.  First, I had no problems using a desktop with Chrome or Safari browsers.  When I clicked the "Comment as" button, my options appeared in the box with "Google Account" as default.  However, on the iPhone, when clicking "Google Account", the drop down menu appears from the bottom of the PHONE, not the box.  It literally drops UP.  But, once you select "anonymous" and "done", the "Anonymous" then appears in the box and you can proceed with the anti-spam process.  If anyone is having trouble, you can send an email to me by using the form at the bottom of the home page.  Thanks.

Tense Family Feud Last Night

Imagine if you will...you are working midnight patrol on a rainy Tuesday evening...the 415 family call is assigned to you.  Middle aged boyfriend and girlfriend fighting...she is bleeding from the head.  He has been drinking and she is an alcoholic, but seems lucid tonight.  You and your partner, in separate cars are on the way.   Then info comes over the radio that the boyfriend has a gun in the bedroom.  Another patrol car heads over there knowing this could go sideways quickly.  Then the boyfriend threatens to kill her.  He says he will leave if she calls the PD.  Now the sergeant is on the way, plus the fire department is being staged, just in case.  You and your partner arrive at the front door, the other officer covers the rear.  First the woman  comes to the door.  Then the man.  Quickly a code 4 is put out- no further assistance needed.  The girlfriend declines any medical aid insisting its a family disturbance only.  In the end this sounded like a garden variety family disturbance call, but there was potential for much more when you mix alcohol, a gun and heated tempers.  Hopefully the couple involved will get some help.  For the officers, its on to the next call...

Short Pursuit of Felony Vehicle

One of Fremont's license plate readers picked up a felony want vehicle on Mission Blvd.  An officer was able to find the vehicle rolling north on Mission at Stevenson around 4:45 this afternoon.  As cover units were rolling into the area, the suspect vehicle accelerated and then turned east into Niles Canyon where the officer lost sight of it.  The felony want was assault with a deadly weapon, the vehicle being the weapon.

Woman Robbed of Car at Luckys

A woman, apparently walking to her car at the Luckys on Fremont Blvd near 880, was robbed by a young man of her car keys around 1:30 this afternoon.  He then took off in her white 2018 Hyundai Elantra 8DZH070.  Officers are reviewing camera data and are on posts looking for the vehicle.
About 30 minutes after the above event, and while officers were still in the parking lot area, a man takes some items from Luckys without paying.  Officer 2X8, who was nearby, was informed of the theft by an employee and took the suspect in custody.  There apparently was some resistance as he requested a case number for a 148PC.  One guy gets a fairly new car, another guy gets busted for petty theft.

Home Burglaries This Morning

A home on Eggers and Cabrillo both were burglarized this morning.  Per radio traffic, the suspect entered the home by smashing the rear sliding door.  What is disappointing is that FPD dispatch had a report of a suspicious person on Glenview about 30 minutes earlier and sat on it, apparently not having any officers available.  It is my understanding that these type of calls where it looks like someone is knocking on a door in an attempt to see if anyone is at home, would be prioritized at a level of a burglary in progress call.   Perhaps two burglaries could have been prevented if an effort was made to send officers to this call.  In the Glenview call, the suspect who knocked on the door, left in white Honda four door sedan.

This is worth spending a few minutes to watch.

7-Eleven Chapel & Other Transient Calls

While most of you are at work,  FPD spends much of the day responding to disturbances caused by transients.  At the 7-Eleven on Chapel at Fremont Blvd there is a man standing outside yelling and refusing to leave.  There will be more before the day is over....
And there is...in Niles at Hillview and 2nd, a man walking down the middle of the street wrapped in a large blanket....and Grimmer and Victoria a transient walking in the traffic lane....a woman down on Beacon with possible leg injury but could be mentally ill as well per reporting party....a man on Thornton Avenue attempting to wash windows and talking to himself was told to move along...Paseo and Walnut, man in his 50s stumbling around and fell to the ground.  He appeared drunk...now at 6:15 p.m. a gathering of homeless at the 7-Eleven on Sundale causing a disturbance and then one of them punched the employee...a man at the Warming Center at Central Park called and said he had been off his meds and might do something bad (at least he called for help).

Barricaded Suspect in Hayward

Hayward Police have asked for Fremont's assistance with a barricaded subject on Industrial Blvd near the Mission Hills Golf Course.  HPD is evacuating the neighbors.  More to follow.
Update- per radio traffic, suspect says he wants to come out either in his boxer shorts or naked.
Update- Now the suspect says he may shower before coming out.  I still don't know what the want is, but HPD will probably have a news release later.
Fremont PD is there to operate their drone.
Suspect says he is coming out now....but he was still inside the last I heard before HPD switched all radio traffic over to their tactical encrypted radio channel.
Update at 5:50 pm.  Per radio traffic from an FPD officer on scene, HPD has the subject in custody.

Tesla Hits Taqueria Las Vegas

A Tesla Model 3 backed into the Taqueria Las Vegas in Warm Springs a few minutes ago and left without identifying themselves.  Fremont Police are on the way and the fire department was called, apparently to assess structural integrity.  Fire captain on scene advising of an injured party inside the building.  I have to admit, that is a cool name for a taqueria.
Update- per radio traffic, a natural gas line was pushed in about an inch along with six inches of wall damage.  PGE has been called.  Sounds like FFD will be on scene for awhile checking out the damage.
At 4:00 Fremont Fire has left the scene, confident that the building is safe.

Commenting on a Post

It was brought to my attention that the "anonymous" comment function does not work properly.  It does work, but it's tricky.  First, select the "anonymous" line on the drop down menu, enter your comment and hit "publish".  Then the "i'm not a robot" box shows up.  Check the box....AND then scroll down a bit until you see the next "Publish" button.  Press that and your comment will then be published and I'll also receive it directly to my email.

CVS Brookvale Hit

A man walked out of CVS in the Brookvale Shopping Center with eight bottles of liquor that he did not pay for a few minutes ago.  According to radio traffic he then got into a waiting get away car. This is at least the third CVS to get hit in the last two days.

Robbery at CVS at The Hub

More details to follow...officers are on the way...suspect left on foot towards Boston Market.  Strong arm robbery (threat of force).
Update- subject apparently punched an employee on the way out.  Loss was a bag of soap. I can’t imagine any DA charging this as a felony, but the assault charge might stick. Police are checking homeless encampments.

Drunks in the Streets

Another day in Fremont, another round of drunks to be scooped off the streets and sent to the hospital.  Last night it was a man down on Grimmer with bottles of booze nearby.  Later at the Motel 6 North, an elderly man was passed out.  He smelled of beer and had urinated on himself.  Now on Paseo in front of the Petit Cafe, a man down.   I don't know which is worse-  drunks passed out or the tweakers roaming the streets at all hours.

Hunt in Hayward For Robbery Suspects

Officers from several law enforcement agencies are searching a neighborhood in Hayward for armed robbery suspects from San Jose. San Jose police helicopter is circling overhead and attempting to follow four armed teens that committed a robbery in San Jose.  The suspects, driving a white Mercedes, drove thru Milpitas into the Warm Springs district where one suspect exited and fled on foot, possibly with a gun.  Fremont officers are actively searching for him.  Meanwhile San Jose and CHP cops continued to follow the Mercedes up 880 into Hayward, exiting at Tennyson.  Hayward officers then joined in.

Women Rob CVS Warm Springs

Two women stole some items from the CVS Pharmacy in Warm Springs and then pepper sprayed an employee on the way out,  thus making a simple theft into a felony robbery case.  The two fled in a rent-a-car towards the Carl's Junior.  Officers are staking out freeway ramps up and down 880 in hopes of catching them leaving the city.

DOG RESCUE IN ALAMEDA CREEK

Fremont Firefighters stood by on the shores of Alameda Creek near Old Canyon and Clark Drive this rainy afternoon as the rising creek was threatening a small white dog trapped in the creek.  According to an East Bay Regional  Park District ranger, a home owner advised him of a dog trapped in rising waters east of the Niles Staging area.  The ranger notified Fremont Animal Control officers to assess the situation, who apparently called Fremont Fire to assist.  Alameda County Water District had a representative on scene who advised that the peak flow down the creek would be around 2:30 p.m.  The dog apparently safely rode out the rising water while on a concrete berm of some sort.  According to the home owner who contacted the ranger, the dog had been hanging around the creek area for a week or so.  As the water subsided, FFD personnel walked out of the creek bed and packed up their gear.  It would seem that any attempt to grab the dog in the fast flowing creek would be risky, but had the dog been pushed off his perch by the rapid flow of water, they were ready to respond.

Bad Morning For Women Drivers

A number of events have taken place this morning involving female drivers.  First was the woman driver that plowed into a number of parked cars on Washington Blvd.  No one was hurt.  Then a woman rolled her car on 84 near Ardenwood resulting in injuries to her shoulder.  Shortly afterwards a woman was involved in a non injury hit and run at a tire store on Fremont Blvd.  She was later located at another tire facility.  And finally (so far) two women are involved in a parking issue in a neighborhood.  And somewhat related is the earlier call involving two women and a tire slashing event.

Driver Trapped After Crashing on 84

A vehicle has crashed on SR 84 near Ardenwood and has ended up on its side trapping the driver.  Fire personnel are on scene from both Fremont and Alameda County Fire Departments.  Initial reports indicate that the vehicle needed  to be stabilized before the driver could be extricated.  Also on scene at this time are CHP and Paramedics Plus ambulance.
Update-  driver has been extricated.  Extent of injuries are unknown to this reporter.
Update-  according to radio traffic from the ambulance to the hospital, the female driver has pain to her shoulder and other possible injuries.  She was able to self extricate once the door was opened for her by fire personnel.

Car Plows into Parked Cars Near Mission Coffee

A car has plowed into at least three parked vehicles in a small parking lot adjacent to Mission Coffee on Washington Blvd a few minutes ago.  Initially it was reported that the woman driver was injured, but officers on scene reported that no one was injured.  While one half inch of rain has fallen in Fremont so far this morning, the cause of the accident was not reported on the radio.

Transients Fight at Warming Center

Fremont Police officers were called to the city's warming center last night after staff reported two men in a physical fight.  Paramedics were not called to the center, according to Pulse Point data, for the late night fight which was reported around 10 o'clock last night.  This reporter has no further info as to whether the involved were located or if any arrests were made.
In other transient news....a complaint from a business on Mowry of a woman sleeping on a bench there this morning, and in Union City there was a report of a man inside the pool area of an apartment complex.  Oh, did I mention that he was naked.  And its 50 degrees and raining.
Update 10:10 a.m. - another complaint just came over the radio...female transient in front of a dental office on Fremont Blvd refusing to leave.

Angry Woman Slashes Tires

A young woman, angry at her ex boyfriend, slashed the tires of his new girlfriend’s car this morning, according to dispatch radio traffic.  The angry woman also threatened to run over the new girlfriend with her car. These crimes, having taken place at a business on Albrae on a rainy Saturday morning, ended what appeared to be a quiet Friday night for Fremont officers.  Prior to this call only 3 reports had been taken since midnight.
