DOG RESCUE IN ALAMEDA CREEK

Fremont Firefighters stood by on the shores of Alameda Creek near Old Canyon and Clark Drive this rainy afternoon as the rising creek was threatening a small white dog trapped in the creek.  According to an East Bay Regional  Park District ranger, a home owner advised him of a dog trapped in rising waters east of the Niles Staging area.  The ranger notified Fremont Animal Control officers to assess the situation, who apparently called Fremont Fire to assist.  Alameda County Water District had a representative on scene who advised that the peak flow down the creek would be around 2:30 p.m.  The dog apparently safely rode out the rising water while on a concrete berm of some sort.  According to the home owner who contacted the ranger, the dog had been hanging around the creek area for a week or so.  As the water subsided, FFD personnel walked out of the creek bed and packed up their gear.  It would seem that any attempt to grab the dog in the fast flowing creek would be risky, but had the dog been pushed off his perch by the rapid flow of water, they were ready to respond.
