Stolen U-Haul Van Gets Away From UCPD

A UCPD officer spotted a stolen van driving on Alvarado-Niles Blvd a few minutes ago.  As back up officers moved in to assist, the van turned on to the northbound 880 on ramp, but then drove south on the northbound shoulder.  The pursuit was then terminated.  A minute later,  a CHP officer, unaware that UCPD was after this van, reported "a white U-Haul van just passed me going south on the northbound shoulder at 60 mph".  Other CHP officers moved into the area to attempt to locate but did not find it.  Apparently it exited at north Fremont Blvd (Alvarado).  Fremont officers are checking streets near 880.  The van was stolen out of San Jose.
